Screen Reader Detection plugin

A plug-in developed for SiteCatalyst that would detect whether or not the visitor is using Screen Reader technology (such as JAWS), and have that information passed over into a new sprop to build as a correlation to other variables.

This is important for us as a government entity since we are required by law to ensure the accessibility of our web pages. If we had this kind of data available to us through the SiteCatalyst interface, it would provide a huge insight into our audience to help us improve on our page designs and usability analysis. It's equivalent to a Multimedia commercial web site knowing what percent of their users have Flash or Silverlight enabled, which helps them develop a better Flash product for the end user.

Here are some articles that explain how to use Javascript and Flash to detect Screen readers:

I'm going to share this with the Omniture Consulting team, which helps to manage and maintain our plug-ins. As such, I am moving the status to "Under Review." I'll let you know what I learn about the feasibility of this project. Thanks, Ben

There aren't any reasonable ways to detect screen readers using JavaScript, unfortunately.
