Legacy Report Builder breakdown by prop (traffic var)

Hello Everyone, I need to recreate a report from Analysis Workspace in Legacy Report Builder, and from what I have experienced the following aren't possible in Legacy ARB:

 

 - breakdown eVar by prop (props not listed as option for breakdowns)

 - get custom event metrics for props  (no custom events listed in wizard)

 

Is the above true, or am I missing something?

 

 Thanks for any ideas.  Are there any documents which state these limitations?

 

(I can successfully recreate the AW reports in the new Report Builder but the client isn’t running it yet)

Rather than trying to make it work in the old report builder, I would suggest encouraging your client to migrate to the new one. The legacy report builder is being sunset in June 2026, so they’re going to have to migrate in the next three months anyway. Rather than spending time building the report, then having to rebuild it in another couple months, encourage them to use the new one now. The new one also works a lot better than the legacy version, so even if the old one wasn’t going away, I’d recommend the new one regardless.

Hi Mandy, thanks for the reply - I totally agree, and the client will indeed migrate, but not soon enough.  At this point I’m looking to verify that indeed the Legacy ARB doesn’t allow the things I mentioned above (among others) to continue to make the case to move to the newest ARB.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve used the legacy report builder, so I don’t remember all of the details.

I did find this in the documentation. You can only use one report type per request, so it might not be possible to break down the prop by the evar.

Unfortunately, the Legacy Report Builder doesn’t allow breakdowns between Props and eVars… it’s like the old Reports and Analytics which didn’t allow for cross referencing those two dimension types…

 

In the legacy builder, your “custom traffic” (props) and “custom conversion” (eVars) are in separate “reports”
 

 

Also, I always found Legacy Report Builder was a bit “buggy” when it came to dimension breakdowns… it worked, but when you went to edit the request all the breakdowns would be missing and I would have to redo all the work….

 

As for custom dimensions, they are available in some reports, but not all reports…  Custom metrics are available in the Site Metrics report, but not in the Custom Traffic Report, but dimensions breakdown isn’t available here…  However, custom metrics are available in the Custom Conversion report (I am not even going to try and make sense of that one….)

 

Figuring out the “starting point” in the Legacy Report Builder was always a bit of guess work… 

 

I agree with ​@MandyGeorge , the new Report Builder will be much easier.. and also, because of the sunsetting of the old Report Builder, it is in your best interest to push your client to migrate ASAP….
