Issues with Traffic Sources Chart

We have implemented the webpage code and s_code, and we are able to generate various reports. However the traffic sources section is showing wrong data, It just shows typed/bookmarked to 98% and Search Engines to 2%. Can anyone guide how to go traffic source data as Typed/Bookmarked, Search Engines, Referrals, Others etc?

Thanks in Advance!!! Please let me know if anymore details / screenshots are needed.

Hi,

I can see that there are no internal url filters added. It should definitely be added. Not adding internal URL filter would lead Adobe Analytics to recognize your own website pages as referring domains. Read these articles for detailed explanation :

https://marketing.adobe.com/resources/help/kb/en_US/analytics/kb/traffic-sources-missing-data.html

https://marketing.adobe.com/resources/help/en_US/reference/internal_URL_filter_admin.html

Just put the domain of your website and create a filter. It should solve the problem i guess.

TM

Hi Lokesh,

Thanks for reaching out to the community!

I would like to have a look at your link tracking configuration and your internal link filters. It would be great if you could provide a screenshot of your implementation.

TM

Hi Tanmay,

Please find the attached screenshot the same report.  Actually the % of visits through search engines is close to 50% ( report says less than 2%), and are significant amount of direct and referral traffic as well.

Please refer the below GA Report for traffic sources. We may require to similar charts in Adobe.

Hi,

From superficial examination, following may be the reasons for getting high typed/bookmarked numbers:

  • A user types your URL directly into their browser
  • A user bookmarks a specific page on your site and references it later
  • Internal URL filters are incorrectly defined
  • The s.referrer variable does not contain data or is blanked out
  • Redirects are implemented without the necessary implementation to keep the referrer beyond the redirect

I suspect it might be the 3rd or 4th reason in your case. I'll still look deeper into it.

Requesting you to also check you Internal URL filter setup at your end. It would be great if you could share the screenshot for it as well!

TM

Hi Tanmay,

Please find below the screen of Internal Filters.

Would you recommend adding some internal filters?

I've checked for the points 1 & 2, But the report in Google Analytics shows around 50% of traffic sources as Search Engines, 5% as Referrals & 40% as Direct.

In Adobe we are not able to get the Traffic Source chart for % of visits from Direct/Bookmarks, % of Search Engines, % of Referrals.  In the chart the referral traffic added or 0%.

Thanks a lot for extended support :)

Great!

Just keep in mind, remove the "https://" before your domain name in the filter.
