Give admins universal password for all users in a login-company

I've been told that Omniture staff have a magic password that lets them log in as any user to see what they see.

It's really the only efficient way to troubleshoot, and would be the ideal tool for admin-level users who must support dozens or hundreds of users.

We manage a lot of users and report suites in our sc-suite. To handle internal support request more faster and much more precise we thought about superuser-logins that can login into any of a account without knowing the specific password and would have the specific settings of the user /account.

This would be extremely helpful to assist internal colleagues in cases of support enquiries.

Omniture is using this kind of feature for internal support cases, isn't it?

Allow the intra company sitecatalyst contact a 'master' password to log in to user's profile for troubleshooting.

I've been part of several threads that include screenshots and whatnot displaying a particular request is not working. For. e.g. the other day I was requested to allow a user access to a country suite. However, even after I gave him access, he was unable to see the country report and replied with a screen shot to prove it. In that situation I would have loved to log-in to his profile and do some live troubleshooting. The above will allow that.

Thanks,

Devender

I've got this working in our dev environment.  The user section of the admin console now gives you the option to "Impersonate" another user.  Clicking this link will open a new window (or tab) and log you in as that user.

I welcome any feedback or suggestions.

Really like it!

This looks like an excellent solution. Can I assume that clicking the link effectively logs off the administrator and logs them in as the user until they log off again?

Norm,

I actually coded it such that the admin can stay logged in to his/her current session and work as the other user in another tab/window.  I thought this would be a better experience for the admin.

A few other things:  If you are impersonating another user, the usage and access logs will reflect this.  That way you have an audit trail to follow when changes are made to the system.  Also, I don't allow an admin to impersonate another admin because you could gain elevated privileges in this manner.

Let me know what you think.

I think I am very impressed. thanks so much for working on this. Any notion of how soon we can see it in production?

Norm,

If you are participating in the SC 15 beta you will see it as early as Jan 20.  Barring any issues with the new feature, it should be in production with the April 7 release.
