CJA: Can “First Hit” be reset based on session timeout rather than ECID?

Hi,

I have observed that in CJA, Session | Starts appears to be determined by the ECID (visitor) rather than by the session timeout. As a result, I am seeing significantly more secondary hits than first hits (as shown in the below snapshot). Is there a setting in the CJA Data View that calculates Session Starts based on the configured inactivity/session timeout, so that when a visitor returns after the inactivity period (e.g., 30 minutes), the first hit of that new session is classified as a First Hit rather than a Secondary Hit?

How exactly is your component there for “Hit Type” configured?

“Hit Type” is a derived field with a condition , if session | start is set then value should be “first hit” else it should be “second hit”.

Two thoughts on how to tackle that one. And I could be wrong - I am still new to derived field.

First check the settings in the Derived field for the persistence setting.

Second, check the setting on the metric. Click the cog wheel on the metric, and check the Attribution setting on the Column settings.

@JuneGa Thank you for your inputs.

I have changed the persistence of “Hit Type” dimension to session based on your suggestion. I have tested the data and i am only getting secondary hits with “Session | Start” as “0” even though i have accessed the site from incognito tab ( as a new user) .

Regarding, Attribution on the metric since “Session | Start” is a default metric we dont have option to change the settings.
