Calculate custom Bounce Rate

Hello, I am trying to create a calculated metric for a custom bounce rate. When users open a page on our website, there are often automatic hits firing, like some layers or applications in the background. Adobe Analytics would not count these visits as bounces even if the user does not perform any clicks himself. Is there a way to create a metric for a custom bounce rate, for example with a sequential segment that would say:

Entry Page exists, then none of the hit (X, Y, Z) happen on the entry page, then exit / Entries.

I have a list of pages I would like to have this bounce rate for, so if there is a solution where I would not need to create a unique segment / metric for each page, that would be helpful.

Hi, we too sometimes have actions that fire (we used to have more), but as such, we also don't use Adobe's bounce definition because it's based on server calls.

We did a simple solution.

Adobe does have a metric called "Single Page Visit" which we use instead for our "Bounces".

And for "Bounce Rate", we use:

Single Page Visits / Visits

This metric can be used based on the site in general, or date segments like Day / Month / Year, or even on dimensions like Page Name, Site Section, Page Type, etc.

Hi @jennifer_dungan, thanks for coming back to me. I am using this metric, too. But on our website, users can take a lot of actions without leaving the page. Is there a way to rebuild the bounced visits within X Hits segment like this?

I tried it the following way, but it always gives me 100% Bounce Rate and if I change within 1 Hit to 2, 3, Hits etc., it does not change the number as well. What would be the right way to build a segment 'user arrived at entry page, then leaves after 1, 2, 3 etc hits?

I am not sure why you are trying to define a set number of hits to your bounce rate calculation?

If your Bounce Rate definition is "one page viewed, and then leave the site" then what I provided above does that... it doesn't matter how many hits were made on that one page.. the user viewed a single page then left.

However, I can see why your segment is causing you issues... "Entry Page" is a dimension that will always exist. Basically, the first "page" value that was seen during a session will be stored in this visit level dimension.. it doesn't just exist on the entry page.

If your Bounce definition is something other than Adobe's "one hit and leave" or what I provided "one page and leave", then can you help me really understand what your definition of "bounce" is so that I can help find something that works for you?
