Android Devices

We are seeing a rise in 'generic android device' within Mobile Device in Analytics.

And a decline on knowing the actual device make and model.

Have Android devices stopped sharing the info to identify this, like Apple?
Or is there some kind of issue.

Google have made changes to how it classifies and reports on Android devices. This could be due to privacy concerns, technical issues, or changes in the way they categorize and recognize different devices. Did you check that?

Looks like this explains what we are experiencing

@hayley1  No, android hasn’t done that yet, perhaps in your market that you are analysing people are just using non branded phones perhaps ?

I don’t think it’s that.

but we see top end android devices like Samsung drop in April and generic come in.

nature of the audience I dont think it’s user behaviours

  • Privacy updates: Newer Android versions (especially Android 12 and above) have added more privacy restrictions.

  • User-Agent string changes: Some browsers on Android now send more generic info in the user-agent, hiding specific device details.

  • WebView & app limitations: If users visit your site through apps or WebViews, device info may be hidden or limited.

Is it a bug?

Not really  it's more of a privacy-focused change by Android, not an issue with your Analytics.
