Alerts - time delay

I want to set up an alert for our Customers metric, which gets updated in AA table every day after 14 pm.

The anomaly alerts that I set up are sent at 00.00 which is way earlier than the Customers table is updated.

Is there a way to set up the alert to be sent after 14.00 instead of at 00.00?

Hi @kani456

At this time, in Adobe Analytics, anomaly alerts do not support setting a specific daily delivery time such as after 14:00. The alert configuration supports the alert granularity, but there is no documented option to choose a custom send time for daily anomaly alerts.

If you are using Customer Journey Analytics (CJA) instead, there is a Delay setting available for alerts. That delay can be configured to account for data availability and can be adjusted from 0 to 24 hours.

So for your specific use case:

  • If this is configured in Adobe Analytics, there is currently no built-in way to have the anomaly alert send specifically after 14:00.
  • If this is configured in Customer Journey Analytics, you may be able to use the Delay setting so the alert is evaluated and sent after your Customers metric is fully updated.

I know that CJA has an option in the alerts to delay them, but I'm not sure if the specifics about how setting it up works. AA doesn't have the same delay option though.

But there is a workaround. When building out the alerts, you can add segments to limit under what conditions the alerts fire. You can use the "hour of day" dimension in a segment, and then use that to limit when the alert fires.

For example, a previous company I was at had a problem with alerts firing false positives overnight, so we made a segment that said hour of day equals, and then we put all the hours between 6am and 10pm. That prevented the alert from firing between 11pm and 5am.

So for your use case, if you want the alert to only fire in the afternoon, you can build a segment using 'hour of day' and put in 2pm, 3pm, 4pm, etc. You can set the alert granularity to hourly and then on the hours you've indicated it will check the conditions of the alert and potentially fire. But you won't end up with the alert firing at other times of the day.

So it's not a delay per se, it's more of a workaround. But it should do what you need.

Although you mention there is no way to have alerts send specifically after 2pm in Adobe Analytics, there actually is a way to do this!

Build a segment using the “hour of day” dimension. Put in the 2pm hour (or any other hours you want). Add that to your alert, and then your alert will only fire if the other conditions are met AND it’s 2pm.
