Ability to overwrite the default geolocation dimensions in Analytics

Looking to populate city, state, country, geolocation values to Adobe Analytics’ default Cities, Region, Countries dimensions. In this case, I would like to prevent Adobe’s IP lookup from populating these values, and populate the default geo dimensions to use geolocation information derived from my own application.

Reasons for taking this approach -

1 Adobe does not appear to handle IPv6 addresses correctly. Adobe Support confirmed this is the case.

2 Better accuracy of geolocation

Request - Add a method to overwrite the default geolocation dimensions in Analytics.

As far as I know, there isn’t a way to overwrite the defaults, but if you’re collecting location data you can put it into a prop/evar and use it instead.

I agree with @MandyGeorge, there is no way to overwrite the locations (as these are all processed by Adobe after the data has been collected)… while you might be able to work with Adobe support to set up Vista rules, this comes at a cost, and probably isn’t worth it.

Collecting your own location information into your own dimension is probably the best thing you can do… and if you want to avoid confusion, you can curate the dimensions available to your users in the Admin Console, and remove access to Adobe’s default dimensions, or you can leave them, and tell people to use them for comparison only, that then should use the custom location information collected in “Dimension X” instead.

Product Profile:

If like me, you are using “auto-include”, you will have to take that off, then you can remove the location dimensions:

It should be noted, that if you are using curated Dimensions, then if Adobe adds anything new, you will have to manually add it to your curated list to be able to see and use it.
