Fantasia Creation – Giant Steps by John Coltrane
Running with the Music
A runner moves through the city at night, guided by the sound of the music.
At 0:15, the melody suddenly changes direction. The runner turns a sharp corner between tall buildings, the rhythm matching each quick step.
At 0:45, the tempo feels faster and more intense. Cars pass, lights flash, and the runner weaves through the busy streets without slowing down.
At 1:20, the music becomes chaotic and energetic. The runner dashes up a long staircase, heart pounding as the saxophone climbs higher.
Finally, near 2:00, the runner reaches the top of a hill overlooking the glowing city. The music settles, and for a moment everything feels calm.
The fast rhythm and shifting melodies imitate the feeling of movement and speed. This use of mimesis makes the music sound like the runner’s journey through the city.
