"Knowledge source failed" for several Adobe apps

For nearly every Adobe app recently utilized - Acrobat, Audition, Photoshop, etc., some variation of the subject message appears (w/ additional app-specific information), followed by interruption of execution of a requested step (sometimes even closing the app completely).

 I am both baffled and frustrated…

Any help would be most greatly appreciated!
