A client recently asked about connecting Marketo to Clay and we were dismayed at Clay’s official docs: Snippet from Clay docs   See how they recommend Request Token Encoding: None? That’s totally wrong, since: There are {{lead.tokens}} in the body, i.e. request tokens. The body uses URL encoding, indicated by the & and = delimiters. You must URL-encode tokens in a URL-encoded body. This webhook setup instantly breaks with a Company like Jack & Jill Construction. It’s kind of inconceivable that they tested it at all.   Moreover, when you actually set up a webhook receiver in the Clay app, it says the payload is supposed to be JSON-encoded, not URL-encoded! So their doc feels like a hallucination. You should actually be using a payload like this: { "first_name" : {{lead.First Name}}, "last_name" : {{lead.Last Name}} }   And of course set Request Token Encoding: JSON.   Why would you ever use Request Token Encoding: None? Knowing if the current pageview is associated with a known lead vs. anonymous is key to a lot of cool personalization.   For example, you can build the equivalent of “If Known Visitor, show Custom HTML” with a non-Marketo form. Or show instant download links if someone is associated (since clicks will be logged by Munchkin) vs. a modal form if they’re anonymous.   ℹ️  Notice I wrote “pageview” rather than “session” or “cookie” to be precise. Hi there We're going through the new Advanced business analtyics reporting and we're noticing that the months are formated as "text" which is causing the sorting to be alphabetical rather than chronoligical. Is there any hack to easily fix this?  For example in the email analysis, when you create a report with a Sent Date - See screenshot Not everyone's fiscal year is calendar year based so this formatting makes it wonky

I have an engagement program running with lead scoring that is tracking opens, clicks and form fills. Once the lead hits MQL, it triggers a notification to the sales team who is following up with these leads. Unfortunately, it seems that most of the activity is non-human (email security filters or link-scanning bots). A few recommendations have been given, but I'm not completely satisfied with them. Honeypot (Doesn't make sense for us)Bot Activity Filter (Is not flagging these bots)My major concern here is that sales reps are having a negative experience with marketing bringing them warm leads if they keep turning out to be bots. It's very important to our team to have a strong relationship with our sales teams so I don't want this to negatively impact their view of the tool and marketing. Has anyone implemented wait steps or constraints into their filters or flow steps that have been helpful in avoiding scoring this activity? Hello folks, I just wanted to ask if anybody can point me towards the right direction in understanding how to create effective nurture programs. We have nurture set up in our Marketo instance but I do understand different orgs/products will have different set up for nurturing leads, different techniques.So, I need to understand the steps that I should consider in general when I am about to create nurtures, Do's, Dont's etc. Any material that I can go through, please share the link as well. Thanks in advance

  Note: This blog is intended for users inside Marketo that have permissions to access the Admin section of Marketo   As an admin, one of the key aspects of getting your Marketo instance up and running is getting your landing page domain aliases (aka "CNAMEs") set up and generating an SSL certificate for each (or even an existing instance - maybe you have brought some new brands on board, for example!) Previously, this was a step that required a support ticket, but now you can self serve and generate the SSL certificate directly in Marketo's UI.   First, navigate to the Admin tab > Landing Pages from the navigation tree. When you click New > Domain Alias, you can now click a checkbox that says "Generate SSL Certificate." After putting in your other details (i.e. Domain Alias, Default Page, etc) and checking the box, click Save.         Once done, navigate to the "Rules" tab and you should see the name of your domain alias and verify that the "

I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this, but it doesn't hurt to ask. So before I flag this as a feature request:  Is there a way to set up the list-unsubscribe header to opt people out by domain, or even better, by email address?  We run several lines of business out of the same Marketo account. For example, we have our main domain for the American Society of Plastic Surgeons - plasticsurgery.org - and another domain for a regional society we manage, the Virginia Society of Plastic Surgeons - vasps.org. One person can be a member of both, so we don't have separate workspaces set up.  If someone gets an email from vasps.org and decides to click the "This message is from a mailing list, unsubscribe?" button at the top if a Gmail or Apple Mail window, it will unsubscribe them from everything coming out of our Marketo account, even if they really only wanted to opt out of VASPS emails.  I do have a followup email that goes out to tell people that t

Hi, We are using Marketo script (for example landing.mycompany.com/js/forms2/js/forms2.min.js) to use Newsletter subscription form on our website, this script takes 2-3 seconds load time which has impact on overall page load time. I am looking for ways to optimize Marketo script, please suggest if there are any alternate approaches. We are using loading this asynchronously. Also, even though we are loading the above script only once, we see a second call in the browser network tab, the 2nd call takes about 1 second time. When checked with Marketo support on 2nd network, support team mentioned that this could not be avoided.

Hello! We recently set up the ZoomInfo integration with Marketo and are creating nurtures and pushing ZoomInfo lists into those campaigns. We try to limit the size of the lists so that we're not sending a large volume of emails. Sometimes, however, a member on our marketing team will create a larger list in Zoominfo and they want to break the list up so we're not sending it all at once. So we do this manually and bypass the integration and download the list, break it into multiples lists, and these static lists into the campaign over the course of a month or so. The question has come up - is there a better way to handle these larger lists? Is there a way to basically throttle the list so that it doesn't all go out at once, but we can pull parts of it on a weekly basis? Any insight from anyone that's run ZI campaigns in campaigns via Marketo is appreciated! Thanks,Dan

⚠️  This post has been edited by a moderator for accuracy.   When exporting Marketo Activity, specifically Form Fill activities, we have encountered two issues that cause problems when trying to reliably parse the exported CSV file.   1. 'checksumFields' Value Contains Unescaped Commas   Inside the attributes field, there is a Form Fields entry. This contains a checksumFields value which is a comma-separated list of field names. However, this is not properly escaped for CSV (RFC 4180). As a result: Commas are interpreted as field delimiters. CSV parsers break and produce misaligned columns. Downstream systems cannot reliably import these exports. Example: "checksumFields":"FirstName,LastName,Title,Company,Email"  Because of this, CSV readers see FirstName, LastName, etc., as separate fields.   2. 'Form Fields' is PHP Serialized, Not JSON   Unlike the rest of the attributes object (which uses JSON-like syntax), the Form Fields valu

Hi team, I'm trying to load the Email Performance Report in Marketo, but it's not loading. I had applied a smart list to filter for a specific set of people and emails sent between October 2024 and January 2025. To troubleshoot, I also tried removing the smart list, but the report still isn't loading. Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be related to data volume, date range, or something else? Hi there,  I am launching an email campaign that requires some links to direct to a partners personal portal. I am using velocity scripts to populate this and am pulling in the partners ID through their person record and inserting that into the url. For some reason when I preview it in Marketo and click the link, it works, but when I send myself a test or an actual email send, it just goes to the login page and not the personal portal of the test record. I have attached some screenshots. It seems like the actual ID isn't rendering in the url when it's sent out? Does anyone know a workaround for this?

I am building out an Interactive Webinar and have everything setup, I have a Smart Campaign that triggers to set "Registered" status and then send a notification email that contains the webinar link. I ran a test and the link is not populating. I see my record in the Members section with a URL, but the email is not populating it using the {{member.webinar url:default=edit me}} token. I even set a wait step before sending the email to make sure the URL populated in the webinar program.

Prepare for person fields and object lists to be empty.
