Does code-based experiences require an SDK?

Code-based experience channel doesn't require an SDK for the implementation, but you can choose either an SDK based or an API based implementation method.

Code-based experience channel supports the following implementation methods:

- Client side, using AEP Web SDK or AEP Mobile SDK

- Server side, using AEP Edge Network APIs

When deciding between an offer decision API and a code-based experience on the server-side, what factors should be considered to choose between offer decision API and a code-based experience on the server-side , especially for personalizing offers on a TV app?

Hi @anuhya-y , that's a great question!

Now, the type of offer dictates if you should use offer decision API vs. code-based experience when doing an offer on a TV app.

But, code-based experience channel will very soon be able to use Experience Decisioning in order to do personalization on any type of surface. So you'll be able to use code-based experience as an activation vehicle for your dynamic offers.

Thanks @robertcalangiu

Could you please elaborate on “type of offer" deciding the functionality

Hi @satheeskannak ,

Yes, code-based experience works for unknown profiles as well and it is able to leverage contextual attributes for personalization.

Thanks for your question.

Can you use the code-based experiences for mobile apps and if so, when would you use this channel instead of the in-app channel?

Hi @hausmanns ,

That's a good question that I'm getting a lot.

Code-based experience channel can be used for mobile apps indeed.

The main differences between In-app messaging and Code-based channel when talking about mobile use cases are:

  • Code-based experience channel can be used for changing and personalizing content inside native mobile apps, so it gives you the flexibility of personalizing inline vs. In-app messaging channel which lets you do messaging only on top of your native mobile apps
  • Code-based experience channel can be used on any type of mobile platform, not only on iOS or Android
  • Code-based experience channel supports both client-side and server-side implementations as I've posted above vs. In-app messaging which relies only on client-side - AEP Mobile SDK implementation.
