While Chris is right about setting up the connection between Fusion and Adobe User Management app I'm not sure the specific action is supported by OOB modules, it may require writing a custom API call.
From what I'm seeing the best shot is to remove users from groups, so assuming you control product...

I just did a quick check and from what I see this field returns # of hours elapsed between Entry Date and Status change to In Progress.
I issue is in status New it returns "Not started".Haven't seen that field before, but I can see some potential here.

than I believe this is only doable for short period of time after update is posted. After that time window I don't think updates are editable

I think JSON path don't have such functionality. For external lookup other Workfront areas I used what I think you might have already tried, a custom calculated field that would contain required concatenation.

if the "why"/final status is expected to be captured in a custom field than you can probably easily create a business rule around that.
Roughly, if project status is Dead, Rejected, Completed, or On Hold && "why" is empty than ERROR, else Good.
