[Email Campaign] Swapping Images using Adobe Target

Avatar

Level 4

Hi All,

I have some questions, for which I could not find answers in the official document or it could be that I am yet to find the right document online.

Please share your knowldge or documents that has the answers for my question.

Environment:

Adobe Target Premium

Adobe Campaign V6.1 [Hybrid Deployment Model]

Use case:

A campaign email is sent out to users with an image from Adobe Campaign V6.1. The image will be dynamically loaded based on the user's gender.

There is one image respectively for male, female and default. All the 3 images are sourced from an external site.

I have followed the Adobe Campaign configuration as posted in the online documents

Integrating Target with Adobe Campaign

https://docs.campaign.adobe.com/doc/AC/en/ITG_Adobe_Target_About_integrating_with_Adobe_Target.html

Questions:

1. I would like to understand the flow of events that happens, when the user opens the email. Does it follow the same sequence as with the target intergation on web site (as mentioned in this video How Adobe Target Works | )?

2. Is activation of Target via DTM mandatory for Campaign Target Integration ?  Although I have activated Target for my site via DTM? Is it mandatory, as my images for the email are from external site and the email content is created within Adobe campaign ?

3. What is the use or role or function of a target property in a campaign email. How does Adobe campaign use the target property in the email which is sent?

4. I do see a dynamic image URL in the email sent out, but how does Target know that the image needs to swapped ? What is the Authentication mechanism used?

Example:

<img src="http://<clientcode>.tt.omtrdc.net/m2/clientcode/ubox/image?mbox=email_Header&mboxDefault=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.domain.com%2Fheader.jpg&
