LiveCycle crashes when attaching global variables to text fields

I have defined 5 global variables via the Form/Form Properties/Variables option. The variable's values are retrieved from a backing XML file to Text fields. My end goal is to hide/show fields on a PDF document based on the values of the global variables, which may or may not be present (as opposed to having values) in the backing xml file. I am attempting to test the values' absence/presence by displaying them in Text Fields  via the 'Use Name' option.

When I try to create the 3rd global variable (it's always the 3rd) and view the via Preview PDF LiveCycle crashes with the following error message(s):

The first message reads:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Library"

"Runtime Error!"

"program: c:\Program File..."

"This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

Please contact the application's support team for more information."

The following messge reads:

"Adobe Livecyle Designer ES"

"Adobe Livecycle Designer ES has stopped working"

"A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Please close the program"

I Googled around and found a possible solution that instructed users to delete the 'designer' under 'username/..../app data/designer' folder. I do not have this folder on my

computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
