AEM 6.3 Install and restart again

The first time when we download AEM 6.3 jar and run java -jar aem-*.jar it takes a while to run the install and bring the server up. However the second time you run the same command again AEM knows that installation is already complete  and the server start is quick. The question I have is How does AEM know that install is already done? Which of the extracted folder has that information? I am trying to dockerize AEM and hence need the info.
