The purpose of this thread is to continue the conversation from the Virtual User Group on the topic of System Admin Enablement on November 16, 2021.

Many thanks to everyone who joined, and special thanks to our System Admin panelists: @Monique Evans‚, @Chuck Holden‚, @Teale McCleaf‚ and @Randy Roberts‚.

There aren’t any slides from the session since it was a live discussion vs. a presentation, but here is a link to the recording.

Do you have any additional questions for our expert panel? There isn't much this group hasn't tackled, so leave a comment below and we’ll keep the conversation going!

Thanks again. If you have any feedback (good or bad), please don’t hesitate to reach out. You can find the schedule for all upcoming User Groups on the Events page on Workfront One (one.workfront.com/events

I just wanted to say this was so useful. I was late but will definitely be viewing the recording to see what I missed.

We are trying to clean up how many teams and groups we have in our system.

Looking for a reporting option or custom view option to see teams or groups that don't have users tied to them?

Thanks in advance.

I finally found an answer on the discussion board. If anyone is interested I add this text to a column in my view on groups:

displayname=Members

listdelimiter=<div>

listmethod=nested(userGroups).lists

textmode=true

type=iterate

valuefield=user:name

valueformat=HTML

Excellent session, gang.

For those late, or who (as I did) had trouble keeping up with the ever scrolling chat, if you're interested in cleaning up your environment, I invite you to register for our Clutter Contest (as @Monique Evans‚ did) before Nov 30, 2021.

Regards,

Doug

Hi Everyone, follow-up question from this session. One of the tips shared (#2) was to create a landing page for users. We've done something similar with a dashboard that expands the worklist. It includes a person's open project and personal tasks, assigned tasks and projects they own.

I like to add a hyperlink to our SharePoint site of Workfront Resources that is a mix of links to Workfront webpages, files and documents that are specific to our group. Using the external page option in the Dashboard gives me a cannot access message. I tried creating a report that uses a custom form hyperlink but same problem. I tested in the updates field in a task and it works like a charm.

Any ideas?

Hi Kathy,

Two gotchas come to mind when trying to use External Pages that way: the links have to be "https" (secure) vs "http", and some sites do not allow themselves to be "framed".

If your Sharepoint site is indeed secure, "https" Might Just Work, so I'd suggest you start there. Even if it is, though, if anything on the Sharepoint page is not secure (even something as simple as an icon), Workfront's external page will still block it from loading (e.g. until all such http resources are either removed, or moved under https).

Good times.

Doug

Doug, thanks for the answer. Is there another way of adding a link to a dashboard?

Appreciate your thoughts.

Hi Kathy,

The URL within an External Page is the standard approach, but I am curious, so if you'd like to email me at doug.denhoed@atappstore.com to set up a time for a screen share, I'd be happy to do so.

Doug

Doug, thanks for being curious. When you mentioned this was the standard approach I realized there was something I had missed. I was!

I didn't realize "height" in add an external page was how much of body to see. I saw the sad face and thought it couldn't access the website. 0694X00000G8nq5QAB.jpg

I did look for documentation in Workfront but it doesn't explain it. They must assume the end user should know this.

Thanks again!

Hi Kathy,

Nothing quite like a virtual second set of eyes (or prospect of one) to spot something overlooked.

The sad face you're now able to see matches my initial thoughts, where the URL that you're trying to hit but is not rendering might either have http (vs https) resources in it, or be blocked from being Framed....or (even easier, and another thing worth double-checking) is simply incorrect.

If you hover over the blue "Workfront SharedPoint Resources" wording you'll see the whole URL, and if you right click > copy URL, you can then paste the URL into a new tab on your browser. If it doesn't come up at all, it's probably incorrect. If it does come up with a warning about being unsecure, it's likely being blocked (in Workfront) because it contains http (vs https) resources in it. And if it does come up with no warnings, it might be because it is blocked from being Framed.

Good luck with it, and I'm interested to hear how you make out!

Doug

Hi Doug,

I was actually looking for the design you mentioned - display a link (1st image). If it did open the page, it will overwhelm the end-user (2nd image). So in the end it did work out!

Now off to organize the resources in SP!

Thanks much!
