Task rollover to following week.

Say I have 2 tasks to complete on Friday, and I do not get chance to do them, is there any way of auto rolling these over to the Monday of the following week?

Hi: There is no automatic way I know of to push out the Planned Date automatically. The AtApp team might have some automagic solution. This is a slippery slope, however, if you want tasks to automatically push the planned date out until it is marked 100% complete. It kind of undermines the idea of proactively forecasting the future. It renders the project plan more of an artifact that demonstrates history than an artifact that anticipates the future. I also think it is important for a PM to be aware when tasks are slipping, so that expectations can be proactively reset. Automatically sliding dates removes that visibility and likewise removes that proactive reset of expectations. Nonetheless, I can understand why it might be beneficial. I bet if there is a solution, Doug / Chris at AtApp can find it. Thanks, Eric

Thanks Eric; yes I can offer a solution. The need to automatically move the start date on a Didn't Get To It Task and make it a First Thing Monday Task is similar (but opposite) to my As Soon As Impossible Blog post, in which I explained conceptually how to accellerate a Project Plan by setting the Planned Start Dates on Tasks that CAN start to their (earliest possible) Handoff Dates.. We have an AtApp that can do that now (UberCalc) plus a whole lot more that would fit the bill. And if you needed to preserve the original Planned Start Date, you could do so with a Baseline (annnnd our Create Baselime AtApp could do those automatically, on schedule, too). With all that said, I do agree with Eric's points, and suggest that folks invest some time seeing how the out of the box Workfront features work first, and try to make them fit their needs.
