Showing Request/Project Quantity Trends

Those smarter than I - Trying to generate a report, if possible, that shows trends in project volume and the increase in requests we've received by month. Thoughts on how to do so? Possible to generate a report that shows how many "current" projects were in the queue on, say, April 30, then on May 30? Much appreciated - BS

Hi Ben, Trending Workfront data stats over time (such as monitoring the number of Issues in a Queue, as you're looking for) is an interesting topic, with many potential approaches. Here are a few I'm aware of: Manually monitor and archive the stats (e.g. in Excel); crude but effective Same concept, but recording them in custom data (e.g. on a weekly Task or Issue on a special Project) within Workfront: still crude but effective, but at least you're using Workfront to then report and review it Same concept, but (if possible) semi-automating them using smarter custom forms that gather the stats you need "at the time" for you, by applying the principals I described in my Weekly Status Reporting blog post Consider using our UberCalc solution to fully automate the same concepts, from which you can then write your own Workfront reports If you'd prefer something more tailored (e.g. spark lines, trending arrows, etc.), consider our Magic Reports solution to present the information in the precise format you require At the extreme, for the Data Warehouse enthusiasts, consider our Workfront Snapshot solution to periodically export all of your most useful Workfront information (including Custom) to a database you can download, inspect, report on, and/or load (e.g. into SQL Server or Oracle) for enterprise level analysis (e.g. OLAP, Tableau, etc.) Regards, Doug

We do trending by entry date (issue and project) and also by Actual Completion Date.

Hi Doug, Without giving away any trade secrets, do you know where I can find some documentation on the various options for API Report queries? :) I've found some very limited info at https://developers.workfront.com/api-docs/#Report but I presume there must be more that you can do with it than that. For example, I am trying to sum currency values. Currently the query is summing the values for different currencies together without any conversion, which means the total returned is incorrect. In the regular web UI you can set your report to present the converted value in a particular currency. I presume this can be done via the API report query too? Cheers, David.

Hi David, Alas, to my knowledge, the link you found "is it" for using the out of the box API calls. For more sophosticated transformations such as the multi-currency example you raise, I suspect you'll need to use a programming language (eg php, .NET, JavaScript) and/or a reporting environment (eg Tableau, SSRS) to combine multiple API calls and get the result you want. For example, our UberCalc solution uses JavaScript, and our Magic Reports solution uses Microsoft SSRS's Report Builder. On the other hand, if you can create custom data that contains what you need (eg Revenue In Australian Dollars) via calculated parameter first, then the simple API $$Rollup on that field might suffice.
