Help! Project Template Question

Avatar

Level 2
Hi - New to Workfront. I have a very basic question. Instead of being swallowed by information overload during a search, I thought I would just ask the community my question. I have a project that I applied the wrong template. Am I able to switch it to the correct one or do I have to modify the one I chose? I don't recall seeing how this can be easily done during any of the training sessions. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you! Chris Ann Garbrandt Nationwide Children's Hospital

If you created the project brank new using the template I would just delete the project and create a new one with the correct template. If you had an existing project and added a template to it, I would just delete the new tasks from the incorrect template and then re-add the correct template. Or are there more issues that prevent that? It came though the request queue and then I converted it. So, I am trying to avoid recreating it from scratch. It's fine. This is my learning curve. LOL! Thanks!

Oh, actually, you can simply convert it again. It'll overlay the "resolved by" of the old project. I would then go delete the old resolved project. Or did you already update Tasks with Status updates, etc.? No I did not update tasks with status updates. I will give it a try! Thank you.

Yeah that should work perfect for you then. Don't forget to go delete the old project afterwards though – just to avoid any confusion down the road. Hi Chris, In my environment, when we create projects from our request queue - we delete the request. Since we already deleted the issue, we cannot re-convert (not easily). What I have done is: Delete the tasks currently in the project (but don't delete the project). Then I apply the correct template via Project Actions > Attach template. Lesson Learned the hard way: If you do delete the project which has your custom form with your request data - you lose the requester information. So, if you don't still have the issue/request - don't delete that project:) Good Luck:) Marie Marie Kelly The MetroHealth System

Now that the Recycle Bin feature is out there, does your deleted Request go there, where you could restore it? I know deleted items go there, but not sure if that applies to those Requests deleted during the conversion to a Project or Task. Hey Vic, Yes, when you delete an issue during the conversion process, it will appear in the Issue's recycle bin. One key thing to think about, that I just found out, is that the timestamp is in GMT, in the Recycle Bin. Thanks! Dustin Martin Tier 2 Assigned Support Engineer Workfront

Awesome. Thanks Dustin. One thing I just noticed about the Recycle Bin that others may want to know. If you delete a Summary (Parent) Task with Subtasks under it, the view only seems to show that Summary Task in the Recycle Bin. So if you're searching by one of the subtasks in the Recycle Bin, you won't find it. That kinda had us spinning around looking for tasks the other day.
