Hi Erica,
Although Workfront does allow you to enter a description for the report, as your screenshot points out, it hides them when the report is presented on a dashboard. If you were to click the name of the report and open it in its own browser tab in "full" mode, the description would then be visible, similar to how the Dashboard description you've shown in [1] on your screenshot looks.
I think what you are doing is the simplest approach, but if you're game for Another Way, you could also:
Write up the instructions for each report in a separate Word document
Take a screen capture of the instructions and save it (e.g. Report1.png)
Drag that file into a Document Tab (e.g. under a company) in Workfront
Open the document in a browser Tab
Copy its full url into your clipboard
Still here? Almost to the top!
Edit the dasboard with the Reports on it
Insert an external page above the Report in question (e.g. Report1)
Type a name for the external page (e.g. INSTRUCTIONS: Report 1)
Here's the magic
Paste the url in your clipboard into the external page's url
Adjust the height of the external page (might take a few tries)
View the dashboard
Rinse and repeat for each report
The result is that each report on your dashboard will be preceded by its instructions, as a little paragraph -- which (since it all started in Word) -- you can make as colorful and graphical as you wish.
Granted, I just threw quite a few advanced concepts out in a hurry. If any of are unfamiliar, I suggest you look them up in help.workfront.com, which will have rich illustrations and additional background context.
Or -- as above -- stick with what you've already got. I think it's quite practical.
Regards,
Doug
