Create Active Program Report?

Avatar

Level 4
I am trying to create a Program Report that shows all of the 'active' programs. I want to filter out all of the programs whose projects are set as complete. In other words I want a list of all of the programs that contains projects that are currently in progress or new. Any advise on how to do this? Denver Lemont OH-DAS

Hi, When I need a quick report about the Active Projects that we have I usually do this in the Project Dashboard and then filter the Active Projects. I find it is the quickest way to see what is open. You can also make a custom report, by going to Reporting > New Report > Project Report > and then create your report with your Program or Project name and status in the Columns, and then use the filter to specify to only see the Active statuses. Hope this helps, good luck! Nicole Medenilla Intuitive Surgical, Inc.

Yup, a project report is the way to go. You could include in the filter that Program name isn't blank, or program name doesn't equal 'Request queues' or 'Admin' if you have some projects that shouldn't be in it. You can also include the program name (and/or group by program name) to make it look more like a program based report. Barry Buchanan Work Management Australia

Thank you all for the advise. We already are using a project report. Our report is a project report that is grouped by program and is filtered to only show active projects. However, we are looking for a report that lists all of the Program that only contains active projects within a portfolio. We have a Portfolio with almost a hundred Programs, and in those Programs there are anywhere from 5 to 30 active or completed projects. A list of Active projects is huge and not usable for some of our executives. That is why we want a list of Programs. With this list users can 'drill-down' from that list of programs to the active projects. The problem is that I can't find a way to filter our completed Programs in a Program report. My current Program Report is only able to show ALL programs in a Portfolio. Any further advise on how to add a filter to a Program Report to only show Programs that contain non-completed projects? Is what I'm trying to achieve possible? Denver Lemont OH-DAS

Have you tried doing a multi-layered filter? You could first filter for programs that are Active, then filter per Portfolio. I tend to use multi-layered filters when I am looking to create a report that needs to reflect, a list of projects each PM had for the quarter organized by portfolio. The filter looks like: Project > Portfolio ID Project > entry date = last quarter Project > owner ID = PM name(s) Nicole Medenilla Intuitive Surgical, Inc.

Hi Denver, On your Program Report, try setting your filter to this, which essentially says "where any of the Projects have a Percent Complete less than 100": projects:percentComplete=100 projects:percentComplete_Mod=lt When I did so in a test report (of Portfolios, mind you, but should be the same idea), the report was nice and short (vs grouping a Project Report), I could drill down into each resulting row (as you'd wanted), and when I inspected the Projects tab with a Standard view, at least one the Projects was < 100% complete (as I'd expected). Hello all, Thank you all for the advise! I created a program report using the following filter: projects:status=CUR ONH projects:status_Mod=in I used what you suggested Doug and switched the filter from project percent complete to project status. This created a Program report that listed all Programs that contain projects that are current or on hold. Thank you all for your help! Denver Lemont OH-DAS
