Changing Multiple Tasks Duration

Avatar

Level 4
Does anyone know what to change multiple tasks that have the same duration but different start dates at the same time? Thanks, Rochelle Dr. Rochelle L. Webb, CSM Project Manager II MHMR Tarrant County Ft. Worth, Texas 817-569-4146

Hi Rochelle, If you tick all of the tasks you want to amend, and then the edit button that appears at the top left above the tasks I believe you should be able to edit it there. Vicky Fitzgerald Telegraph Media Group Limited

It does appear but you have to make a entry on each line. For example in MS Project, you could select the field you want to change on each task and then make one entry for all changes (not 50 changes for 50 tasks). Rochelle L. It doesn't look like you can bulk edit Duration. Katherine Haven, PMP VP, Director, Business Technologies - PMO FCB

As a general rule, tasks have a start date, due date and duration. You enter two of them and the third is calculated. The task constraint ('As Soon As Possible', 'Fixed Dates' etc.) determines which you enter and which is calculated. I can see problems when you select 50 tasks, and 3 of them are 'fixed dates' meaning duration is calculated not manually entered. How should this work? Not allow bulk edit if any of the tasks have calculated duration Update the tasks where duration is manually entered, but leave the others alone Change the constraint type to 'As Soon As Possible' and apply the new duration Can we give the developers any hints as to how they should handle this? Barry, If the PM wants to extend the duration, even with fixed dates constraint, the duration should be extended. In other words, override the constraint. Alternatively, if the developers choose to keep the fixed date constraint, the remaining tasks should be changed. Thanks, Rochelle Dr. Rochelle L.
