Changing Field types

Hi Group! I have a simple question - if I change a field type (from a radio button to a checkbox or vice versa) will I lose the data already stored in those previous fields? The choices presented in each field would remain the same. After building and using a custom form, with some new fields - I just realized that I need to restrict choice in one field and open choice in another. Changing each one to a different format will make life easier down the road.

Sorry to be the bad news guy, but I don't believe you can just switch the field from Radio Button to Checkbox or vice versa. You have to create another field. Which means you would lose the data. Unless someone else has seen something else. It would be nice to be able to have another field with the same name, but different type. I don't like having to name fields with the extensions just because someone else beat me to the punch and created a field with the same name I would use. For example a text field already created and named "product type"; so if I want a field named "product type" (but a check box type), I would have to name it something like "product type - check box" or whatever. As the System Admin. I know I can limit people's ability to create custom fields/forms, but I wouldn't want to take that away from them; besides it would make more work for me since people would start coming to me to create fields for them. :( Not sure if that is in the idea exchange anywhere, but it would sure be nice to be able to have the field type dictate its uniqueness rather than its name.
