Best Practice: Rescheduling an In Progress Task

HI Community I am looking for some guidance (or maybe reassurance) as to what your best practices are for rescheduling an In Progress task? We currently have projects that sit idle (either On Hold or Waiting on Information) during our Business Analysts' assigned scoping work. Once the information is received, we look to reschedule our assigned resources to ensure they are measured fairly (On Time). How do you perform this task yourself on your projects? Currently I am adjusting the Planned Duration which may/may not be the right choice so recommendations would be appreciated! That's what we do as well. For In Progress Tasks that had started we change the Duration to extend the Planned Completion date. This allows you to keep the Start Date accurate and also spreads out the hours over the course of the duration more accurately. For tasks that haven't started yet, we just move the Start Date to the new Start Date.
