Copy a Custom Field

Having the functionality to copy a custom field will be hugely beneficial to the users in charge of managing the forms and System Administrators. Currently if I, for example, have a dropdown with 100 choices, and want to have a second dropdown with 99 choices, I will have to manually recreate all those 99 choices.

Hi @Monique Evans. Thanks for the suggestion! We tried that initially, but after 2-3 seasons the list got too long to manage. Plus, we now need to include the dates for the season (2018-19) in the field name for reporting reasons - this results in us needing to create a whole new field.

Hi everyone,

As an update on this, I wanted to let you know that upgrades to Custom Fields became a part of a bigger initiative and these sort of enhancements are going to be a part of it. Hence, I’m marking this idea as “Not Planned” as the delivery of it is falling out of Idea Exchange defined time frames.

We will be reaching you out proactively, during the research phase and in the meantime, I’d encourage you to add your use cases here for the future analysis by our team.

Best regards,

I just had to create 50 Yes/No questions. I would have LOVED to just copy and paste. Please implement this!

Just adding to this idea because I've spent a lot of time entering 100+ options into new dropdown fields when in theory I could have copied an existing field with almost the exact same list of options.

To take this a step further though, it would be great to be able to export/download the options in an existing dropdown. Sometimes I've worked with business owners to build new fields that are similar to existing fields, and they like to know what the options are in the existing field before providing me with a new list. It's time-consuming to take screenshots when you can't see the full list on one screen (scroll, screenshot, scroll more, screenshot, scroll more, screenshot...).

Thank you!!

Adding here since I see this is 4 years old now, and I've run into this problem for the first time. I have 6 options on a dropdown and needed to copy/rename that 5 times and had to do it manually. Any update on implementation?

Thank you for the submission! We think this is a good enhancement to the Workfront platform overall and this product area in particular!

Workfront currently prioritizes large-scale, foundational enhancements such as the new Reporting experience and changes to the core data model, so this item does not fit in our near-term roadmap. As such, I am marking this as Declined now, but we'll keep this in our backlog for the improvements for this area so that we can revisit the decision in the future.
