The purpose of this thread is to continue the conversation from the “Special Edition” Leap Virtual User Group on Resource & Capacity Planning on July 2, 2020.
Many thanks to everyone who came to our virtual meetup! Special thanks to @KIMBERLY REA‚ and @Meghan Scotto‚ from Schneider Electric for sharing how their in-house creative studios assign work into the teams, manage projects with templates, and use the resource manager
As promised, attached is a PDF of the presentation, and you can watch the recording here.

Thank you all for the discussion today!
As an in-house agency that does not bill hours or track time, we have struggled with utilizing the resource tools. At this point, we have appreciated the Workload Balancer tool, which still allows us to see overlap in timing of projects and tasks for the creative team - even without the planned hours. We are working on sharing these views with leadership, in hopes of starting the conversation around the benefits of tracking hours. I would suggest that as a starting point for others that are having similar challenges!
A question on the Workload Balancer: I see the option to share a link to the Workload Balancer. However, when I share the link with other team members (even other Administrators), the filter disappears and they are unable to see the specific filter that I was viewing in the tool.
Are there alternate ways to share the Workload Balancer, other than the link? How can I share my filtered view?
Thanks for the support!

Hi - so the filter issue is a bug. Workfront Product is working on and hoping to fix it soon. It is definitely annoying.
Also, you should talk to @Exp - Vazgen Babayan‚ . I know the Workfront is in the research phase of doing a Small/Medium/Large approach to resourcing for groups that don't do planned hours. :)
Thank you so much for the info @Anthony Imgrund‚ ! Sounds like there is hope for our resource management in the future.
@Exp - Vazgen Babayan‚ , can you share any more information on the approach? I would be happy to learn more about this possibility 😊

Thanks for your interest @Monika Barnett‚ and thanks for tagging @Anthony Imgrund‚ ! We do indeed perform research in that direction and would love to get in touch to discuss further!
Here's a link you can use to schedule time on my calendar directly so that we can discuss this via a Zoom call: https://calendly.com/wf-product-research/planning-without-planned-hours
Solution-wise, right now we are thinking of combining several factors such as complexity of the work (S/M/L Antony mentioned), days remaining for the deadline, current percentage of completion and priority of the work to calculate the level of focus needed for the successful completion of the work.
The "why" behind the research is presented (shameless plug) in my Leap session, titled "Battle for Focus: How will Resource Management evolve in a modern enterprise", in Business track. Please feel free to review that and share your feedback on the concept as well, that will definitely help us to have a more solid footing as we move forward.
