Trending feedback for the new Workfront experience Beta - January 17th 2020

Avatar

Hi everyone, This biweekly post is Workfront's communication of the trending feedback we have received from all of you participating in the beta. Over the past month, we deployed updates to the new Workfront experience that provided many new updates. Please reference this release activity page for all of the new functionality. A couple of key updates are the following: Customize the landing page and pins - Released to Preview only In a Layout Template, you can now customize the landing page and add default pins to the top navigation for your users. This update also stores pins to a user's profile removing the issue where clearing your browser cache clears the pins. Search filter update When searching for a specific object type in Workfront, you can now use a drop-down menu to select the object type you want to search. Below we have summarized the top trending feedback over the last two weeks and we have included a response from the Workfront product team on our next steps: Feedback Area Trending Feedback Workfront Product Team's response Search Search filters are causing confusion when to use the "/". Also search results are not returning items as expected. The search filters have been updated allowing the user to manually select which filter is applied to the results. We are aware of the results issue and are actively working on finding a solution. Favorites & Recents Add Recents back to top nav and sort favorites alphabetically Recents are currently being added back to global navigation with Favorites. We're working to release the feature to allow users to re-arrange their favorites list as they choose. Secondary Navigation Secondary nav bar is sensitive by opening and closing when unwanted We are aware of this issue and have a solution to improve this. This item is on the roadmap for a future release. Workspaces Pins need to remain across devices and after clearing browser cache This has been released to Preview and in the next week to Production. Issue occurring where pin names are changing We are aware of this issue and actively looking into it. Update Stream An issue causing the update stream to disappear on a small subset of users. A fix will be deployed in next week's patch to resolve this issue. Additionally, please refer to this "https://one.workfront.com/s/question/0D50z00006Px3NjCAJ/" post for a summary of trending feedback since the Beta started and our next steps. thank you Josh! I am looking forward to testing the layout templates with pins. Can I ask a couple of questions on the rest of the updates. 1) Are you able to share what the intent is for how search will be populating results in the future? I know when I start typing in the search bar in Classic it starts immediately populating results after a keystroke, but with new experience, it seems to take 3. 2) Can you share what your plan for improving the secondary navigation is? -skye

Hi Skye! For your first question, our intent for improving search is to start populating results after a keystroke. This will be similar to Classic. For number 2, we are working on a solution to improve the ability to expand and hide the secondary navigation allowing you to determine if you want the navigation open (icons with wording) or closed (icons only). When the navigation is closed (icons only), we will be adding tooltips to appear on hover over the icons. Josh Boston

thank you Josh! And for the second question, can you clarify what you mean by "if you want the navigation open" -- do you mean always-open, or open-on-hover like it is now? (or can we have 3 options: always open, open on hover, always closed) If always-open, will the rest of the content move over to the right so it isn't hidden by the navigation panel? If open-on-hover, can we dim the sensitivity so it doesn't open as quickly if you're moving over it but will eventually open if you've been there about a second? -skye

The solution we are researching is that you can have the navigation always open (icons and text) or always closed (icons only). The open on hover will be removed. Then, yes if the navigation is open the rest of the content will move over to the right so it isn't hidden behind the navigation. Please reach out if you want to see more of the designs and give your feedback. Josh Boston

@Josh Boston - I noticed when I logged into our production instance today that a "Beta" button appears next to the Workfront Lion icon. It was not on any of the screen captures that I have for WFNE from last week. What is the purpose of this button? It doesn't appear to do anything. Thanks! Admin Kelly-Wehrmann SSFCU

@Josh Boston. I also noticed the Beta icon next to the Lion. Only thing is today I'm not able to access my Home dashboard via the Lion icon. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks Kathleen Palumbo

Hi @Kathy Palumbo - I'm not having any issues getting to the Home even with the Beta label now there. After you clear your browser's cache (since that seems to fix a lot of issues), I'd contact support to see what is going on there. @Admin Kelly-Wehrmann - I think it is just a label. They did it when Home was first introduced to Production or GA. Although, I will say with the design of the NWE, it does look like it should be a button. LOL! Anthony Imgrund FCB

Thanks, for taking time to reply, Anthony! :slightly_smiling_face: It would be nice if they gave us a heads up...especially when so many eyes are on this to review/provide feedback. LOL! @Kathy Palumbo - Like Anthony, I am not have any problems getting to Home. I'm using the latest version of Chrome. I have another interesting one...I opened last with support last week, but they can't replicate it. I can replicate at will. I noticed when using Chrome and dashboards that have reports containing groupings. When my screen initially loads everything looks ok. However, if I expand then collapse a grouping on one of the reports everything below that report starts bouncing/jumping on the screen....almost to the point that I get motion sickness. LOL! If I expand the entire report or just a single group on the report the bouncing/jumping stops. I am not able to reproduce this behavior with IE11 or with Edge (even though Edge is not supported). I'm just curious if anyone else has seen this? Admin Kelly-Wehrmann SSFCU

Hi - I'm not getting the jumping issue you are explaining. I would recommend if Support can do a quick zoom meeting and record it. Last year, I asked my company for a program to record my desktop and that has been a blessing because I can clearly show support the issue that I'm seeing even if they can't replicate it on their end so they know I'm not crazy. (I use Camtasia because you can use 1 license on two computers and we are a two person team  ) Anthony Imgrund FCB

Thanks, @Anthony Imgrund . We have Snagit Editor, which enable us to take screenshots and videos. I attached a video to my original support ticket. When playing bac k the video captured by Snagit the behavior appears substantially slower compared to watching it live. My make shift fix....taking video of my monitor with my phone so they could really get a sense of how fast it is moving. So far, they haven't had this reported by anyone else. I guess I'm just lucky...NOT! LOL! :slightly_smiling_face: Admin Kelly-Wehrmann SSFCU

Hello Everyone, The "beta" icon is a label to let users know that they are using a beta. There is not functionality associated with this. Eventually post beta, this label will be removed. Chandler Smoot

Hi Kelly, I experienced the bouncing/jumping yesterday when I was trying to expand a list. Unfortunately I can't remember if I was in a report or not. Kathy Kathleen Palumbo Marketing Production Lead Blue Cross & Blue Shield of RI

Hi Kelly, Kathy I got the same bouncing/jumping behaviour in Chrome ( Version 76.0.3809.100 (Official Build) (32-bit)) and Edge ( Version 79.0.309.18 (Official build) beta (64-bit) ), but my testing today shows it's very random. I opened a report in it's default chart view, opening segments of the chart didn't start the jumping, but switching to Detail (which for me defaults to closed groupings) started the jumping. Switching back to chart or summary stopped the jumping. Back in detail, opening one grouping sometimes stops it, opening several sometimes stops it, closing some (or all) sometimes stops it! I'll log a call too... Regards Bob Sleigh BT Group

Also just noticed that moving my cursor over the "Edit Report" or "Show Filters and Groupings" links causes the screen to jump once or so, but not go into repeated jumping My call ref is 00188182 if you need to cross-reference them... Regards Bob Sleigh BT Group

@Bob Sleigh and @Kathy Palumbo - I did some more testing today on my fluttering screen issue and provided the following update on my Support Ticket: I have conducted a series of tests using different combinations of : Windows > Settings > Scale values (including recommended) Browser Zoom Settings (including 100%) I my testing I found that for each combination, even with recommended Windows Scale settings, there is always a threshold value on Browser Zoom settings that you hit that will cause the screen to jump/flutter. The Browser Zoom setting is different depending on the Windows Scale Setting that is applied. For example, Windows Scale Setting of 100% (recommend) works ok at Browser Zoom of 75%, but will flutter once I hit 80% and 90% and collapse/un-collapse the report. Then it will be ok again back at 100%. Windows Scale Setting of 125% works ok at Browser Zoom of 75%-100%, but will flutter once I go to 67%. Admin Kelly-Wehrmann SSFCU

Wow Kelly, that's some impressive troubleshooting knowledge – I didn't even know there were such settings, let alone consider that they might be combining to mess with my display I'll pass the info on to my support guy as they are still unable to reproduce it... Regards Bob
