Search

Hello! I noticed today an adaption of the Search - and I do not really like it. We are now back at having a lot of clicks before receiving a result. 1. click magnifier 2. click on category - I always do so as in 99 % of my searches I am heading for a project - so why is it not possible to set a default category on user level or save the last choice in the session? - I really liked the functionality with typing in /project, that saved me the click on the category select 3. click into the search field and type One more thing. What about letting the user sort by "Name", "Status", "Date", or having a grouping. I think it is good having all the projects listed (in classic only in advanced all the projects appeared), but especially Status is a very important value as most of the time people will search for "current" projects. I am curious about your opinion. Best Stephan Siller

I'm also pretty annoyed that the "/[object]" functionality is gone. Was there any documentation on that being taken away? Kirsten Heikkinen

Glad to hear that others liked the "/[object]" functionality. Especially when searching for a project, I was able to type "/pr" and that was enough to highlight the project object and I could hit enter to select it and continue typing my search. A couple weeks ago I submitted a ticket when I found hitting enter wasn't working. The response I received indicated that changes were coming to search so that wasn't going to be fixed. When I mentioned that was disappointing because those of us using it here really liked it, I got this response: " It's interesting to hear you say that. All of the feedback I've personally heard about the / filters was negative and I think that's mostly what our product team was hearing too."

And now that I've developed the "/[object]" habit, I'm finding it hard to break! LOL

Maybe I needed more time to get used to it, but I kinda hated the "/object" function. Different (key) strokes for different folks I guess... Anthony Pernice

I actually found the "/object" function a little clunky, as opposed to what they have now. For some reason I wasn't able to hit "enter' to make the filter stick, so I had to type "/project" then click on the project option that appeared, then re-do my search with no indication that projects were selected. This may have been a bug I was experiencing, but personally I would rather click the dropdown, select Projects, then type my search. To me, that's much faster. That being said, you're absolutely right, @Anthony Pernice : different (key) strokes for different folks. I know others on my team who would prefer to type it all out than click two extra times. I was experiencing the same thing as Maddy (no way to hit enter, tab, or figure out some other key to select the filter I needed). Additionally if I accidentally typed the whole thing out (e.g. "/user"), it wouldn't come up as a filter. I'd have to refresh the screen and start over. -skye

Really interesting... I experienced several phases with the Search in Beta. It is true that there were times that the /object function did not work properly. But during one phase it worked for me as expected = 1. click into search field 2. typing "/project + ENTER 3. typing "PROJECT NAME" no further action required as results were loaded immediately However. I think we all agree, that most important is a quick search with clicks reduced to a minimum. I think the following functionality would help: 1. opening search not only via click on magnifier, also provide a keyboard shortcut > position cursor in search field (as it currently does) 2. option to set a default category that is always preselected (saves the click on the category drop-down) 3. deliver search results while typing in the search term (as it currently does) 4. grouping Best, Stephan Stephan Siller

I agree with the steps Stephan has provided, especially the preselected category (which I assume for most of us would be Project). Debbie Scalf BCBST
