I couldn't find it either. I ended up clicking on the logo in the upper left which takes you out of the project. Then you have to go back and find the project you were working on. In most instances with the new experience, I have found that it takes more clicks to get to places. Julie Lang Catholic Relief Services
Hitting back does not even work for us 99% of the time. It won't go anywhere. Luckily, support has confirmed they're working on making that back functionality work properly as soon as possible so we can at least test effectively. They mentioned having a breadcrumbs experience to get back to the project coming in the future that will likely take longer. It sounds like they're at least well aware and trying to get us something to help with this. Brittany Jones Project Manager, Marketing Operations DICK's Sporting Goods
Hitting the Back button in the browser is a solution, albeit an unreliable one. When you open a proof, I would FAR prefer opening in a new tab, or at least have the option to do that. Anthony Pernice Healthcare Consultancy Group
Thank you for your feedback. This is indeed problem right now. As a next step to solve this problem, we plan to add breadcrumbs to the top menu in the proofing viewer. You'll be able to close a proof by navigating to the parent object in the breadcrumb. This will also provide context for the proof because you will readily see which task or project it is associated with. I'm attaching a screen that shows the change. Let me know what you think?

I'm so confused. Don't most of us get to the proof via a documents folder of some sort? So what happens if we need to go into the documents folder for something else? Do we need to click on the parent object and then go back into the documents folder? Can you implement a shortcut key like Esc that would simply close out the proof and return us back to the view we were on? (Proof used to overlay on top of the containing documents tab and I just don't understand why you wouldn't want to keep that functionality or similar functionality for users who are reviewing multiple proofs / multiple files). I mean, sure, include the breadcrumb trail but to remove the existing functionality as though people weren't relying on it is a bit weird. -skye
I agree, we really need the ability to quickly go right back to the specific folder within the documents that we were just in. If we have to keep clicking back to the project itself and have to keep reopening what specific folder we were just in, that will slow our work down tremendously since we have some complicated folder structures at times. I'm not sure if the goal of the breadcrumb trail is that it will understand where we just were previously, but if it's just a general link to the project that will be a bad user experience for us. Also, hitting the back button still is not working for us. We click it over and over and nothing happens. But if a back button will send us right back to the folder we were in in a future state, that would be helpful also. Thank you! I like the breadcrumbs, as an added feature, but agree with Skye & Brittany. Most times I just need to do a quick view of multiple proofs loaded in the Documents tab to troubleshoot a user problem. The X worked perfectly for me. Sheri Whitten Gordon Food Service
While I do love the breadcrumbs, having at least the option to open the proof in a new window/tab would be ideal so I can easily match up task/project information to what I'm looking at in the proof. Anthony Pernice Healthcare Consultancy Group
Control + shift doesn't work for me :( I also tend to open tasks from a project tasks list or objects from a report by right click + open in new tab and that doesn't currently work either. It's very frustrating when I'm trying to open something from a long report in a new tab and it opens in the same tab losing where I was in the report.
The bread crumbs are a good idea, but what about those who open the proof from their email. In the classic version there is an X in the right corner to close it out. Currently there is nothing in the new experience and my clients will find that very confusing. They make their decision and then there is not a clear indication that they are done. Katy G.
Hi, We are exploring a few ideas about how to improve the proof navigation problem raised in this thread. We're looking for a few proofing users who could provide us feedback over a short 30 minutes meeting. Please reach out to me if you would be interested.
I happened to be playing around in the App this morning and opened a proof. When I clicked the Menu bars in the upper left corner after opening a proof, there is a "Back to Workfront" link at the top of the menu list which took me directly back to the document page I had been on when I opened the proof. I'm not sure where that link would take me if I had opened the proof from an email. And I think it would take a large amount of effort to train our business partners to look there for a way to close the proof but it felt like one area where the app is ahead of the New Experience.
