#NAME?

Beginning yesterday, 2/20, the @ tag function has changed. Now, if I start to craft an update and I try to tag someone their name shows up 1) with the @ symbol and 2) with their last name. Anyone else seeing this? This is very disruptive to me and my personal workflow. In addition to that, if I add names to the 'Notify' field, their name shows up as @ [Last Name] (see attached). This is less of an issue to me, than the aforementioned problem when tagging in updates. However , when I add a name under 'Notify' and hit enter, it automatically dumps me back into the update. Then I have to click back into 'Notify' to add another person. And the cycle continues... Am I the only one seeing this? Brandon Hamm Bravo Group

We noticed this yesterday in our office. I agree that it is disruptive, and not a pleasant change. Is this permanent? Julie Lang

@Julie Lang , great question if it'll be permanent or not...I highly doubt it. It's got to be a glitch. Side note: it's not occurring on EVERY project/request. Some are functioning like normal. I'll have to submit a ticket. Brandon Hamm Bravo Group

I am not experiencing this. Very odd.

Thanks for the response @Jill Ackerman . Not that I want bad things for others...but I really wish more people were seeing this. Let me know if things change. Thanks! Brandon Hamm Bravo Group

Hey @Brandon Hamm - I actually noticed this today, it seems it is actually taking whatever is before the @ in their email. Tagging myself produces cory.onay which is my email address in Workfront, tagging another team member is john.DOE as their email address is capitalized like this. I agree I do not think this is a good change. It should be reverted to First Last as it has been. Cory Onay Onemain Holdings, Inc.

Thanks for the response, @Cory Onay . Glad there's more of us...still haven't had the chance to put my ticket in yet, unfortunately. Ours would always show First Last in the Notify field, but it would just show their first name when you'd @ tag them in the update itself. I don't mind the change in the Notify field (though I don't really like it), but I very much so care about change in the actual update. It changes my workflow and slows me down. I'll try and prioritize getting the ticket in today. Thanks! Brandon Hamm Bravo Group

HI Brandon, I'm the product manager for update stream and I apologize for the confusion this change has caused in the New Workfront Experience. We are working on modernizing update stream to include (@username) as a link within comments. However, there is a bug currently that prevents the username from showing as a link so the username is appearing as plain text. We are planning to have that fix out at the end of this week. Hi Brandon. I am seeing the same @ sign in the Notify field when pinging the user either from updates or Notify. We use SSO, so what's showing up here is the Federation ID for the user rather than the last name, though. I was not able to duplicate the return to Updates field after hitting return on my first user added to Notify. My cursor stays in that field and I can add multiple people. I'm not sure if the fix was applied, but now instead of seeing the entire name of the person that I am tagging (@john.smith), after typing their name I am now only seeing their first name (@John). This is confusing when tagging multiple people with the same first name. I can't discern which person is tagged, or if I have tagged the same person twice. For example, if I am tagging James Smith and James Jones to an update, I will only see @James, @James in my list. Hovering over doesn't reveal a full name, only way to see it is after I have clicked the update button. This can get pretty confusing ... Julie Lang

@Julie Lang , @Mindy Anderson -- it appears to be working as normal on my end now. When I start to type @John it gives me options and when I hit 'enter' the person's first name populates, like it always used to. Their full name shows up in the 'Notify' field. This is how it used to work. Is this going to change again? Brandon Hamm Bravo Group

Ok, nvm. I see where it's just the first name in the "Notify" field. We only have ~80 people in our organization so that's less of an issue right now. But I see how that could cause problems. Brandon Hamm Bravo Group

Thanks for the update Mindy. We just had a user accidentally send an update to the wrong Nicole and didn't realize it. Luckily I caught it and removed the wrong person from the project's people tab, so they didn't have access to the confidential project, but pretty scary! Sheri Whitten

Update on this folks. Now, in the Notify field, we have a few new things that are great, plus one not great one.

In the Notify field, it now shows the full name (YAY!), with the @ symbol...which is kind of odd, but fine.

There's a small note when you're starting a new message on an existing thread that says "Notifying [name], [name]" -- I like this!

In the body of the message, the person's name now shows up at @[Name] -- not a fan...but not the end of the world

I say this because when I write a message I type it like I'm talking to them: Hey @BrandonHamm, how are you? And normally when I'd hit enter after typing the @-tag and the user's name, it'd just have their first name. I liked that. Again, not the end of the world.

See attached. Brandon Hamm Bravo Group

Some of my users are only getting the first name of their tagged users in the "Notifying" section. We have TONS of Sarahs and Jennifers that are going to get messages not intended for them. This issue has been ongoing for a month judging by this thread. When will a fix be in place? Anthony Pernice

Hi Anthony, In New Workfront Experience users should be seeing the new tagging behavior which is @ [first name] [last name] in both the To field and the Notifying areas. If that's not the case for you, please open a support ticket. In Classic, there is a bug where when you are tagging a user in the comments, after you select their name from the dropdown, only the first name shows up in the Notify area until you save, then both names appear. When we release 20.1 later this month that will change to the same behavior I describe above for NWE. If your users' experience is different, please report to Support and we'll look into it! Thanks!
