Invalid XML: ... encoding specified in XML declaration is incorrect

Hi,I need to import a XML file into a PDF. This works as long as the encoding of the XML file is UTF-8. However, the files I need to import have an encoding UTF-16. When trying to import I get an error:Invalid XML: Xml parsing error: encoding specified in XML declaration is incorrect (error code 19)It is almost impossible to have the xml-file changed, so is there a way to import a UTF-16 encoded file? Thanks in advance!Erik

Determine and change path of opened PDF

Hi,is it possible to determine the path from where the PDF is opened? And if so, can the default path be changed? This is what is going to happen:The server will create a rondom named folder and puts a copy of a PDF file there. There will also be an external XML file in the same folder containing data. The user is going to open the pdf. Once opened, the external XML-file with data needs to be imported. This will be done by a button on the form, that opens a 'browse'-screen.As the user does not kno...

Hi,that's exactly what I wanted, but I was unable to find any trial software for this subject. So, when I contacted Adobe, they kind of 'ordered' me to buy the software because what I was doing was not according to the license of Adobe LiveCycle Designer. But perhaps someone else has found the trialsoftware. If so, please let us know .

Hi Paul, thanks for your reply! That's exactly why I need the Reader Extensions. This is what I need:I have created about 20 forms that up to 100 people can fill in and save. There is some data available in an external XML file. It would save the users a lot of time, when the data from the external XML file is imported in the PDF. However, the users only have the Reader, and I was told by Adobe the only the Reader Extentions would make this possible.Erik

Hi Jasmin, thanks for your reply! I still am a little unsure if I understand you explaination.I already have created forms with LiveCycle Designer E.S. 8.2 on my desktop pc. I now need to add a functionality to the forms I have created (importing data from an external XML file). The users that will work with my forms are only having the Reader. So, how does the Reader Extension work? Is it software I can install on my desktop pc, or do I need to install it on a server (that I do not have)? Is it th...

Hi,Adobe has informed us that we need to use Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2 in stead of Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2. We had some doubts about the reason why, but that's a different issue. Now, when we want to order Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2 we need to indicate on what application server we will install (IBM WebSphere / Oracle WebLogic / JBoss). However, I want to install it on a desktop pc. Can anybody explain me which of the 3 options I need to order? What is the differenc...

Hi Niall, thanks very much for your answer. You confirmed what I was not hoping for ;-(Do you know what it takes to set the required extentions into our pdf''s? It is just a software module that we buy? Is it something like 'Extent features in Adobe Reader' from the Adobe Acrobat?Any idea what the costs are for the LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2?Thanks,Erik

Hello, here is a question:Is it possible to import XML data into a PDF-document using Adobe Reader?I have created a new PDF-document using LiveCycle Designer. I have added a button with "xfa.host.importData();" (Javascript). When clicked, a browse windows opens and the selected XML-file (located locally on disk) is imported into the PDF. However, this only seems to work using Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader.Am I doing something wrong, or is the Reader just not good enough 😉Thanks for you responc...

I have created a form with several fields. To check if the fields are filled, I have placed several checks if the DocClose event. This creates a messagebox containing text of the missing fields. This will only popup when the pdf is closed. See below for a part of the Java-script.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------var errmsg = ""if (Form.Page1.CompanyName.rawValue == null){errmsg = errmsg + "CompanyName is not filled in...

Thank you all for your help!I have put the script into the ButtonSave::change event. However, nothing happens, when I click the button (not in the Reader of Acrobat).Could it be a problem if the Save-button is placed in a different subform than the fields that need to be validated?Best regards,Erik

Hi,please help me with this question I have.I have made a form in Livecycle Designer with a lot of textfields that needs to be filled. Most of those fields are mandatory. What I actually want to make is that after the user clicks a button like "Save" THEN there will be a check if all required fields are filled.I have tried the function execValidate but I don't want to use that. Because then there will be popups at other moments, than at the save-moment.I was thinking something like:if (Form1.Pag...

Hi Srini, thanks again for this great help! Certifying seems to be no option for us. So, I am working on the browse option. In addition to that I wonder if it is possible to set the default folder before showing the browse-screen.So, when the user clicks the button, the screen that pops up should be already be browsing in the same folder as the PDF is located. This would make it very easy for a user to select the XML-file.Please advise in this. Thanks again!Regards,Erik

Thank you very much for your help! I got this far allready and that works fine. However, the end-user does not have Acrobat. And what we look for is that the end-user does not have to do a manual action to import the data. That should be automaticly done at startup of the pdf-form.This is what we try to get:The end-user opens a pdf formWhen the pdf form is opened, the pdf form looks for a XML file in the same folder (XML file is created in a different proces)When the XML file is available, the d...
