Nigel,Thankyou - I am in the picture now.I appreciate it is difficult to conceive or conceptulise what patterns and needs might emerge at this stage. Real-time collaborative interaction is a new consideration for me and describing how an object should behave whilst being under the influence of multiple users has never been a design issue. I will no doubt discover as I get stuck in.ThanksAndy

The concept of AFCS is now clear to me - and it’s looking good. Are there any specific standards regarding how collaborative interactions are defined that I should be taking into consideration?I would not want to reinvent the wheel if Adobe is planning some kind of interoperable schema. I realise 'interactions' are broad and range from describing the states of game characters to the transitions in an elearning quiz - but is there a core pattern that adobe has already identified? Please do not misu...

Thank you Raff.I get the picture now. I was assuming that if you could create rooms, authenticate etc from a third party server - then you could also send a 'message' to the room. Its good that you are planning it as it will open a world of possibilities.

I have had a think... about the AFCS concept and how to use it strengths. The biggest value to me is that at its core the service can manage and 'push' data to clients in real-time - which is something I currently would find impossible to do. In the initial stages of an application design I thus need to differentiate between what data needs to be 'pushed' in real-time and what data can be 'pulled' when required. In the above question I fell into the trap of believing I had to push image data aroun...

Hello Raff,Non flex would be a small flash application for example running on a mobile phone. It does have to be chat... it could be a person submitting a photograph to the room for collaborators to use.I am not overly technical in these matters but my perception of what the AFCS is might be wrong... I see your big server a place where resources can be placed for people to jointly interact with. How those resources, whether they be images or text get into that room does not nesscary have to be vi...

Quick question! Is it possible to have a core of flex based rich interactions occuring in a 'room', but also tap into selective interactions - say only the chat to send/receive from a mobile device for example?I do realise this would be done on the server.A hypothetical example would be some users working from the desktop (in the flex app) and other users in the 'field' relying information into the chat interaction from a mobile phone.

Stefan,The youtube demo works now – thanks.I appreciate what you and Raff are saying. The considerations regarding real-time data transfer is a new area for me. I am quite a cautious and conservative developer who never really goes for ‘effect’ – I will carefully assess the communicative value of an interaction before sticking it in an application.I am beginning to build a picture of what is involved (I know this is obvious):Collaborative interactions send messages which get multiplied from the ...

Thankyou Raff.I should really accept the idea that Adobe is offering a super collaboration server that can handle all this data transfer and I don't really need to think about. I need to forget about the restrictions on my own little server....... and think BIG!BTW: I am not planning the next killer social application. Thanks again.

What are the most network intensive AFCS interactions?

During the intial design stages of a project it would be useful to know what aspects of the AFCS are the most network intensive, and perhaps the most likely areas to cause delayed collaboration responses. I am asking this because there seems so many tempting 'rich' interactions made readily available through AFCS.For example does video streaming take a lot of resource or is it tracking all the interactions on a whiteboard? Or is it the voice transmission?I realise it depends on how many users ar...

Stefan,That would be very very helpful.I started with puremvc only last year and it has really helped me tidy up my approach to application design. Although it did take me a long time to get my head around everything.... particularly pipes. Very clever stuff. No pressure for the post! I am currently finishing of my teaching term and then I will get more free time to dabble with AFCS.Please tell me when you do post anything.

Fantastic. I know you should read the 'manual' - but some of your audience, including me, are not full time developers and we like to get a real quick overview. I personally would be interested in seeing how a custom component would be built. A basic example might be tracking each user’s mouse movement like the whiteboard (the base of a game I suppose)…. does that come under custom messaging? Maybe that’s too complex – I don’t know. Great stuff.

Hello, I am at the conceptualisation stage in my project design and new to cocomo. Is it possible to build a modular application, say using puremvc that only loads cocomo components as and when required – i.e. if the user wants to use the whiteboard then it is loaded in, if they want to chat then the chat module is loaded in etc. All the components would need to connect to the same room. Or, do all the interactive cocomo components you want to use have to go inside one big ConnectSessionContaine...

My curiosity got the better of me... I just tried it again.I can be a bit more helpful - I get the intial login and can log in, however a few moments later the computer grinds to a halt - I can hardly get windows task manager to run. My pc is old, but I run lots of 3D graphics software and I never have a problem... the you tube living room app is definitely sucking the life out of it....I don't like to be negative about such a great looking service, but I guess you need to know.

Thanks Cocomo, I was jumping in with too much excitement! I did agree to the terms and conditions, but I did not read them... for technical reasons. My adobe acrobat plugin malfunctioned a some time ago, having been unable to fix it I have been simply downloading PDF's and reading them offline. But, you cannot do that with links embedded in flex and the terms PDF was nowhere else to be found.Anyway, I found the service restrictions and see the bandwidth is 3GB and concurrent users is 15.

Hello,Simple question: I compiled the collaborative image viewer application to test out the service. I am wondering where all the images go when the users upload them? Can they be cleaned out for example by me as the account administrator? Is there a limit to how much can be uploaded?Services like this are excellent for users like me (I am not a full time developer - I am a teacher) it means I can just get on and try things out without having to reinvent the wheel with core functionality - very...
