@BarryC16, I completely agree with you. I do believe that Jeff is trying to find a solution that is in all of our best interests and we should just wait and see what they come up with.@Sebpatu2000 I had previously written Jeff an email and described exactly what you said in point 3 of your solutions. Adobe could charge influxis.com a small licensing fee for the LCCS backend code. It would be a win-win for all parties involved.Matt

@mattcom - I also would be very interested in this, if it can be done. Although I have a strong background in IT, I am pretty much a novice when it comes to setting up/managing servers, let alone something like this. I was reading the BBB FAQ page and they recommended having a dedicated server with quad core X3450 cpu and 4GB memory. And, they also "recommend that you use BBB for on line classes totaling twenty five (25) users or less. This may be one class of 25 users, 2 x 12, 5 x 5, etc." Well...

Thanks mattcom.I was looking at BigBlueButton too! It does seem like a workable alternative. Do they allow for room provisioning and external authentication? The problem with every alternative I've looked at is that they all lack some feature(s) that LCCS has and which are absolutely needed for my site.Matt

Thanks for the reassuring news Jeff! When you say "ease the transition from LCCS", you mean transition from the brand and not the functionality, right? And I would have no problem paying more for the service bandwidth as well!Matt

Jeff,I understand why Adobe would want to move away from Flash based services, and I appreciate you trying to help find a solution for us. That being said, I have spent the past year developing an application using LCCS and building a site to support it. I and my partner were doing final testing and were going to go live within the next couple of months. We already have a few customers lined up and have invested a lot of time and money into this. Needless to say, the recent announcement feels li...

Jeff,I appreciate your ongiong help in trying to find an alternative for us. I think going through an FMS hosting service would be the best option. My only question is how do we set up the backend so that it can talk to the client and allow all the features we currently enjoy (i.e. video, chat, whiteboard, etc...) as well as room provisioning? I do not want to go through ten different 3rd party solutions to get all the feratures LCCS supports. It's not only a waste of time/money on our end, it's...

I might have found a solution to this!I created 3 event listeners for users entering, leaving, and being kicked out of a room: _userManager.addEventListener(UserEvent.USER_CREATE, onUserCreate);_userManager.addEventListener(UserEvent.USER_REMOVE, onUserRemove);_userManager.addEventListener(UserEvent.USER_BOOTED, onUserBooted);I then added the 3 handlers for the events:privatefunction onUserCreate(p_evt:UserEvent):void{ updateRosterList(); }private function onUserRemove(p_evt:UserEvent):void{upda...

Hello all,I'm trying to make a custom roster list that does not show the room owner on the list.I have a user queue with an "Accepted" list. The room owner can select a name from the list and click a "Remove" button to kick the user out. If Iuse the standard dataProvider="{cSession.userManager.userCollection}" then the owner is able to kick himself out of the room. Obviously, I don't want to allow this as the owner might inadvertently kick himself out.The only way I can think of how to resolve t...

Thanks for the above update Jeff! It is good to hear that Adobe isn't abandoning Flash completely, however, I must say that I agree with adam+k and BartoszMar. This is not going to sit well with many people, even if we have to move to an FMS solution on our own. Could it not be possible to keep LCCS up for the time being. The API is almost perfect and wouldn't need much support. Perhaps you could keep a couple of engineers around (Arun would be my first choice) to maintain the server and do smal...

Arun,You're still here! That is great Your help has always been awesome and much appreciated! Please tell Jeff not to end the LCCS service! It is the best there is, and probably will be for some time! The API is already good enough and doesn't need much improvement. Perhaps he can keep you and couple other engineers around to keep the server going and do small updates every now and then. Thanks again,Matt

I would like to know this as well, however, I think Adobe would be making a very big mistake if it completely pulled it's support for Flash! Again, there are simply no viable alternatives for certain things Flex/Flash can do. Everyone who's ever worked with Javascript knows that it is a hideous mess, and HTML5 isn't fully implemented/supported yet. I think many in the web development industry are jumping the gun right now and chasing after a "better" solution for building RIAs that simply doesn'...

Jeff,Thank you for your quick reply! Also, I do appreciate that you are working to find alternatives for us."I'd prefer to keep the dialog open and honest and not debate Steve Jobs or the profitability of LCCS."Sorry about that, however I'm sure you can understand my fear and frustration.I look forward to hearing from you as soon as you have any updates. Thanks again,Matt

Jeff,Pardon me, but I simply cannot believe what I'm hearing. I have been working on a site using LCCS for almost a year, and now you guys want to pull the rug out from under it. If LCCS is not profitable, I could see Adobe wanting to scale back a bit, but from the looks of this forum, I would guess that hundreds, if not thousands, of people depend on this service! The fact is, for many of us there are simply no cost-effective, easy to implement alternatives. You suggest deploying our own server ...

Hi Hironmay,I have been away from LCCS for a bit, but I just returned to the project and it seems that I am having a problem with the user role of a GUEST not being promoted after being accepted by the OWNER. I basically have a knocking queue, where a staff lets a client into a private room. That part works great (thanks Arun)! However, even after entry, the guest seems to be stuck in the GUEST role. He can see the webcam, "Publish" button, WB, etc..., but he can't start the webcam or draw on th...

No problem Arun! I appreciate you taking the time that you have done already to help! No, I just have to figure out how to remove the staff (i.e. OWNER) from the roster list so that he can't kick himself out I might have to update the list in a function every time someone is accepted or removed from the room rather than binding to the userManager.userCollection. When I get this sorted out I will post the solution here. Thanks,Matt

Arun,I think I might have found a solution! I was looking at older post in the forum and I found out that a guest who is sitting in the lobby apparently does not have a userDescriptor (does this mean that they also don't have a userID?). Because of this, there might not be a way to extract a userID at that time and use it later on when I am populating the "accepted" list (thereby making it easier to kick that user out). On the other hand, the customRoster example is using dataProvider="{cSession...

Hello all (I think Arun is the one to ask on this topic),I have implemented the knocking queue in my app. and it works great! What I want to do now is add the ability to remove a user from the room. I am just adding a "Remove" button that will allow the host to remove a user which is selected in the "Accepted" list. Essentially I want to combine the KnockingQueue and the CustomRoster examples. I tried this, but quickly realized that they are populating the list components they are using in diffe...

Arun,You were absolutely right! When I wrote the post I had just moved the guestsHaveToKnock setting into the synchronization event handler, but for some reason it was still throwing the same error, so I think the browser didn't update the version of the app. I was using. However, it is working now!I do have a couple of quick questions though:1) How long does an authentication token last before it expires?2) What is the difference between using the application's "applicationComplete" event and t...

Hi,I'm working on an app. that has 2 parts, a staff and a client and I've been running into the same error over and over for over a week now.I've implemented a knocking queue and it works fine when the staff (who is the "OWNER") login details are hardcoded in MXML. However, the minute I try to incorporate external authentication in the staff app., which is all done in the creationComplete() handler, I get the following error:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null ob...

I've spent some time over past few days going over many of the examples again to see if I could get some insight into the latest problem (above). I'm really starting to get a good grasp of how it all works, especially the flow of events when a user is login into the service! The dificult part is knowing what exactly to do where. It seems that the best way to make sure all the pods and collection nodes sync up to the service without throwing errors is to listen for the "SessionEvent.SYNCHRONIZATIO...

Arun,I tested your code and it works perfectlyThank you very much for taking the time to troubleshoot/test this! Besides delivering outstanding products, the support in the forums by engineers is why I totaly stand by Adobe! (I wonder how many Objective C engineers will help Apple fanatics with their iPhone apps.!)I separated the logic between the 2 apps., removing the unnecessary code in each (most of the KnockingQueue code is mutually exclusive) and it still works! The only serious problem I'm ...

Arun,Thank you very much! This is basically the core of my app., so if I can get it working then everything else is pretty much "bells and whistles"!I did some more tests and stripped the app. down to the basic essentials (just audio and webcam publishers/subscribers). When I did this, both apps logged in and worked as expected. What I found was that as soon as I added the "whiteboard" or "notes" pods then the errors started. This doesn't make sense to me because both of these pods are in the "s...
