Opening a ResourceResolver is normally opening a JCR session. Which comes with some overhead. Some time back I profiled a publish instance in load tests and found that eliminating a single filter, which opened and closed a JCR session (and doing some work in between) increased the number of requests my publish was able to handle by ~ 5%.So if you do that lots of times during the rendering of a page, it will negatively impact the performance of the page rendering. Well, that is not necessarily a product issue in the first place, but you can also get there with project bundles and services built in a certain way. Depends pretty much on the special case, it's hard to make generic statements.

I played around with the POM settings and figured out the problem. I was using version 1.26.0 of the Felix maven-scr-plugin dependency. Once I switched back to 1.20.0 this stared working correctly. So that plugin should look like this. org.apache.felixmaven-scr-plugintruegenerate-scr-descriptorscr1.20.0

This is what we're trying to do. I don't believe in practice it works this way, though. It's looking like we have to manually set the smart tag setting on each sub folder.

We have some code roughly like this. A Base Page Component that contains has an html.jsp page that adapts the BaseTemplate Component An Event Page Component that contains has an html.jsp page that adapts the EventTemplate Component The Event Page Component extends the Base Page Component. The EventPage.java class extends the BasePage.java class. Both the EventTemplate and BaseTemplate Component java classes have @PostConstruct annotated initialization methods named different things. Figured it out. The problem ended up being that the customizations needed to be placed under /conf instead of /apps.

Brightcove informed us today that 5.3.1, although listed on the same site as 5.1.6, isn't ready yet. We went back to 5.1.6 and things are working better.

Thanks, Ratna Kumar! Does the documentation need to be updated on the page I linked to, then, to reflect this?

So I used "repo get" and it returns a bunch of nodes, but they still don't work. In fairness the converted version of this didn't work anyway. Even before export. I suppose I have to look for a new method to convert the design dialogue.

A follow up to this. While the core component worked, it came with some difficulties. Mainly that the tooltip was a different style from the other tooltips in the dialog and so it scrolled off the page. Eventually I was able to get the standard granite fileupload component (granite/ui/components/foundation/form/fileupload) to work. This is what a fileupload entity looks like in my code now. What I changed was adding the useHTML5, autoStart and uploadUrl attributes. I think the key part was the up...

Unfortunately it seems that a number of these warnings made it into AEM 6.4 ... It's safe to ignore them, although I would appreciate if you raise support tickets for it. Just to raise awareness.
