You can always create a clientlib and include it in edit mode only.. For example, create a clientlib names "cq.authoring" include it in your page only for edit mode... it will have a JS function which will only be called by your dialog in any of the callback method like blur or whatever.... It seems that what you want is full customization. Wondering why you need mySQL connector or for that matter any DB connector. As Scott mentioned, you should use JCR/resource API and based on the result set, you can build charts, excel or anything you like
