Re: Auto update percent complete on tasks - Workfront 24-04-2017
That's awesome. What I would give to have ANY resource full time on one project :). I'm hoping we get there some day. But the risk I mention is still real. If it auto calculates by passing time, it'll automatically show the task as exactly on time, all the time, which can be misleading and give you false information about the status of your project. How would you be able to truly know when a task is late or ahead of schedule?

Re: Fix the SPI & CPI Indexes - Workfront 21-04-2017
CPI also does not use baseline, which will again be misleading and incorrect. If I baseline a task with 40 Planned Hours and half way through I change the Planned Hours to 80 hours (we under estimated), WF calculates CPI based on the new number, so my budget indicator now looks good as opposed to over budget. Essentially both are only useful if you never change your project plan dates and estimates (which happens.... never :))

Fix the SPI & CPI Indexes - Workfront 21-04-2017
Currently the SPI Index does not function properly for tasks that start later than intended. For example, if I have a Baselined task of 1 week duration (40 Planned Hours) that was supposed to start 2 weeks ago but hasn't started (0% Complete and 0 Actual Hours). The SPI=0 (correct). But if I change the Start Date to today or greater (which is what a PM should do for tasks that didn't start on time) the SPI changes to 1, indicating the task is on time (it's really 2 weeks late already). It should...

Stay in the location of the plan after deleting a task or refreshing - Workfront 21-04-2017
Currently, while in the Task view, when we delete a task or hit refresh, after completing the action, it takes us to the top of the project plan. This can be a bit frustrating, especially in a large plan when you're in the middle of the plan and have to scroll back down.

Re: Auto update percent complete on tasks - Workfront 21-04-2017
I would actually prefer it auto calculate based on Actual Hours (like MS Project). If Planned Hours = 40 hours, and Actual Hours is 20 = 50%. The only risk with allowing % complete to calculate via calendar time is that assumes the person has been working on the task and is exactly on target (which I find to be rare :))

Re: Ask Alex Shootman ANYTHING! - Workfront 22-07-2016
Hi, Congratulations and welcome. There are already many great questions here and I look forward to those answers. As a Workfront System Administrator and champion of the product of my organization, my question has to do with quality. Is there any plan to focus more on quality and the integrity of the system? We find way too many bugs and in our case they don't get resolved quickly and in too many cases they don't get resolved at all. They're significant problems that cause people to question the...

Re: Commit Dates are killing us - Workfront 21-07-2016
Ah, gotcha. Thanks. Assuming they're not changing that soon. Would it be possible to create a report or filter to list the Tasks where the Planned Completion Date and Commit Date are different. Might make them easier to spot and know to have a conversation. Re: Commit Dates are killing us - Workfront 20-07-2016
But the Commit Date should not be effecting your timeline. The timeline uses your Planned Completion Date (which is unrelated to and not connected to the Commit Date). So I guess I’m not understanding why the Commit Date would mess up anyone’s plan. Am I missing something? Re: Commit Dates are killing us - Workfront 19-07-2016
Yeah I have a Dashboard that lists the Tasks Completed Last Week and the Tasks Scheduled for this week and we review those in our Weekly Status Meeting so everyone knows what they’re working on. The only time I pay attention to the Commit Date is if someone changes it. As the PM I get notified and if the new date is ok, I change the Planned Completion Date. If the new date is not ok, I at least know to have a conversation and go from there. Vic Alejandro, PMP, CSM | IT | Project Manager IV...
