Re: Reporting:Grouping: Any way to rename "No Value"? - Workfront 22-04-2016
Hmmm... I was thinking of using an IF statement in the groupings. Something like valueexpression=IF(ISBLANK({owner:name}),"Non-Specified",{owner:name}) but that didn't work. However, I'm not the best at valueexpressions so maybe someone else out here is and can fix my mistake. The one thing to caution: If you have a custom grouping, you cannot do a chart or graph. I have a few reports that I would love to have as a chart but can't as I have custom groupings. Just something to keep in mind.

Re: Optional fields in a report - Workfront 20-04-2016
You bring up a good point. I should clarify that my idea was based under the assumption it was an issue report. With that the issue is the line item and it sounded like everyone wanted to see the issues. It was just if people wanted to see just the issue description, the last note, or all the updates. If you use a Note report, it would be a combination of filters and views you would use. However, for the person who just wanted to see the issue description, they might see multiple descriptions. Y...

Re: Reporting on Document folders - Workfront 20-04-2016
This is a great question, Alison! I was looking at the API explorer and I see that the Document Folder is an object. However, you cannot reference it from the document itself (which seems werid to me). I do know from a roadmap meeting they are trying to fix the way document folders are in the system so you should put in a feature request (I can put one in too ) so the team is aware of this when they start on that proejct.

Re: Advanced reporting: Predecessor Assignee column? - Workfront 20-04-2016
This is a great question! I was looking through the API explorer and it doesn't look like you can reference predecessor information for a task (probably since a predecessor is really a task object type). But I'm interested in hearing if someone else has found a solution, so I'm replying so I can subscribe to the thread.

Re: Optional fields in a report - Workfront 20-04-2016
Hi Sue, This is what I would do... I'd go to Report Settings and check the box that says "Allow view to be changed on the report." Then when they run the report, they will see the View drop down and can easily pick a different view that they would like. You can even create the view for them and share it with them so they can easily get what they want. It does require an extra step on their part but it saves you from having to create several "versions" of the same report. Hope that is helpful.

Re: Top Tip - Workfront 19-04-2016
That is a great tip, Tim! We have also found that teams that use Workfront dashboards during their status meetings have greater user adoption. My hypothesis (since I've never surveyed the people to find out for sure) is that since they see that the info is easily accessible, they are more likely to go into the tool to check out the information themselves. And see they go into the tool more for the reports, they also check out the My Work area. At least that is our experience.

Re: How do you use 'Programs' in your setup if you cant have status' applied to them? - Workfront 14-04-2016
Totally makes sense. For us, it isn't that big of a deal because the Programs say the fiscal year. So if your client is now on fiscal year 2017, you don't attach the 2016 Digital Campaigns program to it. You attach 2017 Digital Campaigns. You should totally put in a feature request to make programs Inactive like you can with Portfolios. It would make sense to have that functionality on both objects in the tool. (I can put in the feature request too so that it gets a greater impact rating with th...

Re: How do you use 'Programs' in your setup if you cant have status' applied to them? - Workfront 14-04-2016
We use programs as organizational tool for projects. (Think of Portfolio as the file cabinet in the corner, Programs are the drawers, project is the folder, and documents/tasks/issues are the documents in the file) Almost all of our business units use Portfolio for the brand and then the programs for key initiatives based on the Annual SOW. (Example: Company is Novartis, Portfolio is Gilenya, Programs are 2016 Digital Campaigns and 2016 Direct Mail). That way at the end of the year, I can build ...

Re: Document approvals line - Workfront 14-04-2016
Hi Skye, If it is important to have the approvals in the task list, you might want to do a task approval and then have tasks for the different key documents that need to be routed. What is nice about this approach is that when the uploader picks the status complete (saying they did their part and it is ready for approval), the status appears as Complete - Pending Approval so you can clearly see which tasks are really complete and which are in the approval process. There is also a field called Ap...
