Naming

All of the following names are the same thing:

  • MCID
  • Marketing Cloud ID Service
  • ID Service
  • Visitor ID Service
  • Experience Cloud ID Service

Why MCID?

  • Video Heartbeat
  • Analytics for Target (A4T)
  • Shared Audiences
  • Customer Attributes
  • Common ID between all Adobe solutions (integrations)
  • Roadmap items will require it

Prerequisites

  • Regional Data Collection (RDC)
  • Experience Cloud Access
    • Single vs Multiple Clouds - Work through that to make sure you're setup for success. Adobe Consulting is the best resource to have that conversation with
  • Code Versions (Visitor API 2.0+, App Measurement V 1.6.4+ (s_code no longer supported))

Cookies

  • Demdex - 3rd party cookie that stores UUID
  • AMCV - MCID cookie used to ID a unique visitor. Stored on parent domain.
  • s_vi - Legacy cookie used to ID a unique visitor prior to MCID. Stored on tracking server domain.

IDs

  • UUID - Audience Manager ID used to generate MID
  • MID - Unique ID returned by MCID service
  • AID - Value of legacy s_vi cookie when stored in AMCV cookie
