Happy July everyone!
First off this month, thank you to all of you who voted on a name of our new monthly newsletter. I’m excited to share that the winning name is Workfront @ Work!
There is so much I want to share with you this month! Just a couple of weeks ago, we had our annual Leap conference virtually. Read on to learn all about it. We also have a big product release coming your way in August.
Let me start with a quick teaser for our 20.3 release. Because almost everything about how you work has and continues to change, we’re excited to announce Workfront Align and Workfront Scenario Planner to support strategic goal setting and execution, and dynamic planning and prioritizing of people, budgets, and work.
Moving on to Leap. Our Leap conference always represents the best time of the year for me. It’s a time to get to see so many of you, listen to your experiences, and capture feedback to use in our continual efforts to enhance your experience with Workfront.
Before I dig into themes from Leap, I’d like to recognize our Lion Award Winners!

This year Leap was obviously different and a really unique experience for all of us. The Workfront executives who presented the keynote did so from a professional studio (with the right social distancing measures and masks of course). It was great to see each other in 3D after so much time. While it was certainly a different experience presenting to a camera and not getting to see all your faces, I hope the message resonated with you.
The dawn of the Chief Work Officer is here. As you heard in Alex’s keynote, new roles have emerged every decade based on significant external events. And along with the roles came systems of record to allow them to do their jobs. For example, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) role and SAP emerged in the 1980’s as a result of a change in accounting rules brought on by inflation and mortgage rates that topped out at 21%. The 1990’s brought us the Chief Information Officer role. In the 2000’s the Chief Marketing role and Adobe were driven by digital marketing, the Chief People Officer role and Workday came about with a war on talent, and my role, the Chief Customer Officer, and Salesforce came with a rise in the subscription economy. We’re now in this new era of work and with that will drive another new role—the Chief Work Officer.
Who will be the people that rise to this role? We expect it will be some of you! But how will you get there? By being bold, looking at the world differently, and leveraging innovative technology. I had the opportunity to talk to someone who is doing just that and asked what advice he would give. Patrick Taylor, the Director of Global Data Management at Covance, has seen great success leading his company in evolving the way they work. His advice for anyone looking to build their career around work management is to think big, think outside the box, see opportunity, and act. It is those of you who are bold enough to do this that will set yourselves apart.
One of our goals as a company is to see you rise in your careers. And as your pit crew, we strive to build what you need to be successful. In addition to over 75 breakout sessions available on demand, in my Leap presentation, I shared a few other things you can look forward to including in-app best practices, an enterprise work management maturity model, and a formal certification program. There is much more we have built and made available as well and you can find all of it right here on Workfront One.
As always, we love to get feedback. Feel free to email me directly--suefellows@workfront.com.
I wish you all a happy, healthy, and safe July.
