Why doesn't red overlay mask appear when I press the backslash?

When I press the backslash key on the black mask, it doesn't show the red overlay. It does turn off the layer visibility "eyes". It has worked in the past but I must have turned it off somehow.

Having exactly the same issue, the 'eyes' toggle on and off, but I don't see the mask overly in red.

Have you gotten any feedback on this?

Figured it out.  In the mask thumbnail options, I show how managed to reduce the opacity to 0%.  Changed it back to 100% and it works fine.
