Tables in Live Cycle - issues with borders

Hi-

I'm using Live Cycle 8.05.  I've created some tables, and I'd like to format them so that there are only borders between rows.  The table is multiple rows long, and three columns.  I remove the borders just fine, but when I try to individually apply a border along the top edge of the table (by either selecting a row or cell), I get vertical borders where I don't want them.  See attached example.

I downloaded a trial of Live Cycle 8.2, and it works as desired there.  Is there a patch I should be downloading for my version or am I stuck?

I'm trying to use a table to organize a lot of check boxes, text fields, and static text, and place lines to separate sections.  A table seemed like the simplest way, since there is a lot of information and I want it to line up nicely.

Also, is there a way for a table to not break across a section?  I'd like to keep certain rows together, so I don't get awkward page breaks.

Thanks-

deb.

Deb,

If you problem is solved in 8.2, I assume getting from Designer 8.0.5 to 8.2 is the preferred procedure. Designer is packaged and distributed with Acrobat Professional and as a stand-alone product. It is my understanding that the upgrade path is dependent which Designer distribution you have.Let me take a shot at it.

Designer 8.0.5 gets a minor update when you install the Acrobat Professional 8.1 update. The Designer update contains bug fixes, only, and does not introduce any new functionality. On the other hand, the stand-alone distributions of LiveCycle Designer ES (versions 8.1 and 8.2) includes new features such as the Guide Builder Tool and Form Fragments. To get to LiveCycle Designer ES from Designer 8.0.5, you have to purchase an upgrade for a small fee.

Is 8.2 the most current version and bundled with Acrobat 9?  The system administrators here have had some issues with deploying 9 (something about network issues), so I'm not sure that I can upgrade.  I downloaded the trial of 8.2 to my personal laptop, which doesn't help me much at work.

Yes. LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2.1 is currently shipping and it is bundled in Acrobat 9.0 Pro and Acrobat 9.0 Pro Extended.

I am having this same issue. I have version 8.05.2073.1.374024.

Is there actually a fix for this problem? It was never covered other than to say spend more money for an upgrade to a different version. And it didn't say if that fixed the problem.

Actually, I did fix this in Live Cycle 8.05, but then went with a different way of doing the form after all!

You need to individually select each cell, row (and sometimes the table) to alter the borders.  In this version, if you select the row and apply a border to the top and bottom, the cells retain their left/right borders (for example).  If you download the file I attached, and select one of the cells labeled "Top border is solid, all others are none (applied to whole row)", you'll notice that the CELL still has solid borders all around it.

The controls are more intuitive in the new version.  If you select a whole row, the formatting is applied to each cell in the row.

So, the old version is cumbersome, but it's doable.

Doesn't work for me. I can have every Subform, Table, Row and Cell set to None for borders, and I will still get borders. Or chage it at cell level, no good. It very much seems with this program, or at least this version, that things are very much in what order you apply them. I have had the problem, rebuilt one piece, and then they work. I have had similar problems with some other things as well. But thanks.
