Securing the Code on a Form

Avatar

Level 3

Hi Everyone,

I'm pretty sure this is an easy question.

I create a form.

I want to secure the code that I wrote so that it cannot be seen by another person who also has Acrobat and LiveCycle Designer installed.

Can this be done?

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,

If you go to the File > Form Properties > PDF Sceurity tab, you can tick so that anyone opening the form in LC Designer will need a password. When the form is opened in Acrobat/Reader, they do not need a password:

However I believe that there are third party tools out there that can get past this. So while it will stop a casual user, it probably will not stop a determined hacker.

Good luck,

Niall, would that apply to a Dynamic distributed pdf as well?

Yes, the security settings are set in LC Designer and apply to the form no matter how it is processed afterwards. E.g. Reader enabled, distributed, etc.

Hi,

I was wrong on the distribute – see Paul's correction here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3683714#3683714.

Sorry,

I was afraid that was going to be the eventual answer.
