Rotating a Dropdown Box in a table

I’m having a problem rotating dropdown boxes in a table.

I can rotate the dropdown boxes 90deg but this causes the row height to increase dramatically and disproportionately to the length of the selectable text in the drop down box. I’m then unable to reduce the height of the row – I can change the height value but it has no effect.

Is it possible to rotate a dropdown box without having super high rows? i've included some screen grabs.
