Yes, you can use the properties of the field and under the Value tab from the dropdown, select "User Entered - Required" or using the Action Builder, add an action to the field, requiring that the field be required, or depending upon whether or not there is a button to finalize the document, put JavaScript behind the click event and have it prompt for any required fields that are not filled in at the time.
