Webcam Video Capture

Hi,

Is there any way to record a webcam session so that it can be
played back later? Would this feature be supported on the cocomo
servers or would it be something that I would have to implement on
my own servers?

Thanks,

Hi Leif,

As of right now, there isn't any (good) way to take
recordings of sessions. This is something we're definitely looking
into though.

One question that strikes me is that when we take a
recording, it would be a series of data and A/V streams. Would your
expectation be that Adobe would host the recording, or would you
prefer to host from your own servers?

thanks

Hi ,

Currently we do not have support for recording and playback
in cocomo. However, we are evaluating all the feedbacks related to
it and looking into this carefully.

Thanks

Thank you for your replies.

Yes, I expect it would be a series of data and A/V streams as
the number of concurrent users in a room with A/V would determine
how many streams to record. Personally, I do not have a preference
for where the recordings are hosted, but providing a capability for
me to host them on my own servers would probably make the most
sense so that I could avoid the overhead of data storage on Adobe's
servers.

Nigel - you mentioned there isn't any good way to take
recordings currently. Does this mean there is a way but it's not
supported/easy to implement?

Thanks,

Hi Leif,

There is a way to make *extremely crude* recordings of
video, but that's it. Basically, take bitmap snapshots of the video
on a polling loop. Ridiculous, I know.

Thanks for the feedback - we are actively considering
recording right now and are trying to figure out how people would
use it.

Ah, and I assume that would

a) happen on the client machine (vs. the server) and

b) exclude audio capture?

Thanks for your response. I gave Fang Chang a more detailed
description of my use case in an email to cocomo@adobe.

I would also like to see video capture in AFCS. It would be preferable to record on my server because of the expense on the adobe side and the difficulties of doing any manipulation.

For the greatest depth of function I would like to see the recording of whole containers or screen. For example if I has a canvas with 4 cameras and whiteboard. The recorder would record all that takes place within, be it one stream or five. Other items could be contained with the canvas such as a clock and a list of users present.

The recorder could be expanded to capture the whole screen if needed.

There are huge possibilities for such a function. Recording sales pitches for training purposes, recording the minutes of meetings or brainstorming sessions etc.

Thanks, Keith

if we host recorded stream on our own server then latency will vary from server to server where you are hosting all the streams.Because if  flash Communication Service takes more time in retrieving the recorded streams from other hosted server then streaming will not be smooth , definately our own server also need to be fast enough to keep up with AFCS or we can configure new Media Server . which suppose to act as another edge server for AFCS.

i am surprised to read with all the video editing and capturing software we can not get a good quality capture of the webcam. It plays real time very well on the screen. For years people have been recording web cams and posting on the net. Why can those internet software packages offer this and adobe can not.

I hope Adobe does something about this soon.

PS I am not looking for Adobe or anyone else to host. It should be a file like a wmv or mov file that you can upload to your site. I have always posted vids like that. I now have a server and want to host my vids. I want to draw customers to my web site.

Thank You

I believe if a service such as this is offered then the following show apply:

1.  Only the OWNER or HOST level can select to record.

2.  The current webcam and audio components should able to configured to change the rmtp server as an optional parameter.  If this is allowed adobe would have to supply the necessary asc file to place on the server.  If the rmtp server is configured then if someone of the OWNER or HOST level choses to record, it would be recorded on premises, if it's not, on the Adobe servers  In that way, there will not be multiple recordings of the same meeting etc.

3.  Playback can be done by simply adding a VideoPlayer component
