Unable to save or sign documents from LiveCycle ES4 Version 11

Hi,

I'm new to creating PDFs and documents with Adobe. I'm currently tasked with updating a range of PDFs within my organisation using the old templates. The old templates were created using LiveCycle ES Version 10.

I've recently purchased LiveCycle ES4 Version 11.

I've commenced updating the documents, however when I attempt to save them and launch them within my organisation, i'm unable to save the file with text or sign any of the forms. Initially when opening the PDF, I receive the following:

"Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form.

Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records."

The old forms (LiveCycle ES 10.0) still work, however mine created under LiveCycle ES4 don't.

I've noticed when I go to the document, under Properities, the Document Restrictions Summary for my new documents are set to: Commenting and Signing - Not Allowed.

How can I enable this for my document? I'm using the same version of Acrobat within each environment (1.7, Adobe Extension Level 3 (Acrobat 9.x)).

Your assistance is great appreciated in advance.

Benny

What application are you opening them with? It sounds like it is Adobe Reader or some other free PDF Viewer. If this is the case as I suspect you will need to reader extend them so that they can be saved with the Reader application.

Hello mouslander,

Thank you for your reply. I'm opening them up in Adobe Reader XI.

How do you reader extend them? Is that a setting that I need to configure within LiveCycle. Once I've completed the form, all I'm doing is saving them as a PDF or Publish. I've tried both with no success

So Reader Extending can be done a couple ways but I caution how you plan to use them. Adobe has agreements on what can be extended and then distributed. You should reference their licenses or call them. In any case for a single form you can do this with The full version of Adobe Acrobat (I am using Acrobat XI). Open the form, Select File -> Save as Other -> Reader Extended PDF -> Enable More tools.

Once you do that, close the form and try opening it in Reader. You should now be able to fill in, sign and save.
