Replace Artwork

Hello all,

I have a 41 page form that I have created and have been editing for many months now.  Every now and then the base PDF gets updated and I have to replace the artwork.  This has worked many times in the past but now it is not working.  It is saying:

Cannot replace artwork because the document you are importing contains fewer pages than the current document.  Select a document that contains the same number of pages.

The problem is that the new document has 41 pages just like the current doc.  I am really at a loss here because I went through each document and matched up each page where the only difference being in a few text changes.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Are there any blank pages added to the form design? If you plave content outside of the page boundaries a new page is created to hold this content...is it possible that this has happened in your form design?

How would I tell if this happened.  The page number goes up to 41 so I am not sure what is going on.

I had the exact same problem. For me the cause was that I had changed my default printer in windows. I think the PDF generator function must first print the document perhaps into PS or some other intermediate format before actually creating the PDF, and the exact page sizes probably depend on your printer. Thus if you change your default printer even though it seems like the page size is the same there may be some difference which is why LiveCycle designer freaks out. Setting the default printer back to the one that was the default printer when I first created the PDF fixed the issue for me!

Two notes:

1. why does LiveCycle care about the page size at all - why doesn't it just resize the pdf (perhaps with a warning and option to cancel)!?!?!?!

2. Why hasn't the original poster been given an actual answer by staff when the original poster obviously replied that the answer given was insufficient? Over 3 years have passed!

3. If the error is encountered and the above message shown, the "FormDesigner" process leaves an open file system handle on the PDF essentially locking it until the next reboot. Not very nice programming :-(

[Possible solution to anyone who has the same error (or even for me in the future, lol]

Just now I've faced similar problem:

We had a PDF form and the artwork for it. There was a task to change some words on the artwork (so, the number of pages have not changed after making needed corrections).

We are using CorelDraw for creating and editting our artworks. And after editting the artwork, LC Designer started showing the same error:

And the decision was to change CorelDraw PDF Settings:

PDF Settings -> Prepress -> Bleed Limit -> set to unchecked.
