Allowing Spanish characters in PDF forms

Avatar

I'd like to develop a PDF form primarily for Spanish speaking users. Is it possible to allow Spanish characters in a PDF form? I know setting the "default locale" in LC has nothing to do with this, so is it a matter of system settings (ie. keyboard settings) on the user's machine?

Has anyone every tried this before?

Thanks

We have a whole unit of people who make our forms in Spanish. They say that they keep Word open, type the characters and then paste them into LiveCycle. I just KNOW  there has to be a better way so I'll be waiting to hear the answers to this question also, so I can pass it along to them.

Thanks for asking the question....

Thanks Jeanette. There was a similar post a while back, but it never got a response. Hopefully, someone will provide feedback to this one.

As for me, I can design the form in Spanish (I'll probably have to do exactly what you mentioned), but I'm wondering how it works on the user end. Really, I'd like to think that it's as simple as the user changing their keyboard settings to Spanish for Spanish character input. Or, maybe they would have to type their response in Word, then copy and paste into the corresponding form field.

I mean, how do Spanish speaking individuals type in Spanish now? There must be some setting located in Windows control panel. I know about changing the keyboard in windows, but not sure if that alone makes it compatible will all applications across the board. Like you, I KNOW there's an easy solution.

Hi,

I am not sure if you are referring to the users creating your forms or the users using your forms.

In terms of typing charactes if the keyboard is set so that you can type spanish characters and the font you are in has those characters then they will be entered into the form, both when creating and filling of the form.

There is nothing specific that needs to be done to the form to allow this, it just accepts the characters that the OS passes to it from the keyboard.

(Point of note: if you are specifying a font to be used this would need to contain the characters that you want to use).

If I have misunderstood the problem then I apologise and if you provide more detail I can investigate further.

And I wonder when Adobe will build in Spanish spell check? Is there one?

Malcolm,

What you stated makes perfect sense...I figured that would be the case (for users using the form), but I wasn't 100% sure. I guess I'll need to find a font that has Spanish characters and embed it with the form. I know that alone could increase the file size significantly.

Jeanette,

Thanks for your input/feedback. I havent noticed a spanish spell check within Adobe; however, maybe that changes if the OS is setup to display spanish text.

Thanks
